Hey all, this is in my opinion, the messiest part of 6th edition. I have a few questions that might bring some clarity to the situation.

It is my understanding that, in 6th edition, vehicles no longer move "forward". I found no mention of the requirement that was in 5th edition for a vehicle to pivot before moving, and then only move straight ahead.

A vehicle MAY pivot if it likes, even when based up with models, and we are supposed to move, then replace, those base to based models when we do so. But their example as to why you would want to move was based on shooting.

ok, on to the question.

Now that vehicles don't have to move "forward" (correct me if I'm wrong) could a vehicle which was charged and has enemy models in base to base contact on three of four sides move away from them without tank shocking?

It appears so, and that is a big help for vehicles.

you could do this last edition as well.

you pivot on the spot, move the vehicle and replace the enemy models where they used to be.

Nothing has changed\ in this instance.

Yeah, other than for tank shocking and ramming, there was no actual requirement to move forwards in 5th edition. It was just commonly assumed that this was the intention.

The only difference I'm seeing in the 6th ed rules was that they took out the reference to being able to combine forwards and backwards movement in a single turn, probably because it was confusing and pointless.

I don't see how this doesn't conflict with not being able to move through enemy units. You'd have to tank shock them, tank shock is for driving through enemy units and you obviously would have to in that scenario. No where does the rulebook say a mod can't move through enemy models unless it's a vehicle that's surrounded. Vehicles are mobile, try to not get surrounded.

60mm, the OP stated he was surrounded on 3 sides, leaving him an exit.

Ah, well then it would make sense to drive out if the exit was to your front or back. If he was on your front, back and side you would have to tank shock as pivoting in place would cause you to move through enemy models.

Pivoting doesn't cause tankshock. You need to move at combat speed to tank shock. If I am surrounded and don't want to move I can pivot and shoot as normal. Cover saves may be given by the intervening models around my tank.

If pivoting doesn't cause tank shock then you wouldn't be able to pivot when surrounded. Unless you can find the part in the BRB that states pivoting vehicles can move through/displace enemy models. Sounds like a surrounded vehicle is stuck

Pg 76. 1st paragraph in Successive turns. I didn't quote the page for the good of my health.

A surrounded vehicle must tank shock to move forward or back but it can pivot on the spot.

I just want to clarify for everyone's benefit that these rules only apply to a vehicle that has been charged. Unless the vehicle can tank shock or charge they still can't move to be within 1" of enemy models.

This is probably obvious to a lot of you but still worth stating.
