How would you alter your list to better handle it? The gk list seems to be a well designed MSU list. Nothing really stands out but the sum of the parts seems to tell the tale. I am interested to hear (figuratively) your thoughts.
In light of the tournament in general, I'm dropping the Swarmlord for a DakkaTyrant to try him out (it's magnetized, so I see myself switching back and forth a lot.) Also, I think Ymgarls frankly don't pull their weight, as they contribute nothing to the actual army, they just remove one enemy unit. Against an
MSU army like this, I kill one and then die. Venomthropes are cheaper and far, far more effective in my experience. Finally, I don't see Crushing Claws being worth it on a Tervigon. Quite frankly, she's slow, and a "mop up" assaulter, who'll just about never be alone unless things go bad. By dropping all this, I have the points to add 2 Venomthropes and 2 Biovores. I now have much more ranged shooting, and am more survivable when Im forced to charge across open ground. This is based on all 3 battles, not just the loss. My Hormagaunts got murdered all day without the cover Im used to having. tactics wise, Im unsure. A straight rush across the board, screw cover and screw casualties could have worked, Im not sure though. I also think the psychic powers are too random for Nids to be able to afford "splitting table" like I did. Definately need to go straight out Biomancy. I was aiming for Telekine dome all three games to compensate for my lack of Venomthropes, and never got it once. That alone would have been huge.
Overall, Tyranids NEED synergy, and Ymgarls/genestealers are frankly too much of a "stand alone" unit to fit into the army. Of course, after I get trashed by Long Fangs at some point in the future, I'll probably bring them out again...
Oh, and one last note on whatd change on playing this guy: The mission! If that was round 2, (6 objective markers) I think I would have handily beaten him. He had NO advance units, and Kill Points means he didnt need them.
