I bought aobr for 48$ on ebay, sold the orks for 43$ on ebay a week later I got an extra sprue from a friend (the one with the dreadnaught and captain and 5 tactical marines. the terminator sargeant is missing.
i also got a stormraven from my wife for my birthday

so here is what i have-

x2 captains
14 tactical marines (x2 missile launchers, x2 flamers)
x2 tactical marine sargeants
2 dreadnaughts
5 terminators
1 stormraven (that I am probably converting to a storm eagle with the chapterhouse kit)

so i realize standard marines can't use the storm raven, but they can use the storm eagle.

I have never played before- but i am an experienced gamer and painter. I am new to plastic minis though.
should i go storm raven and blood angels or eagle and standard marines?
what should i get next?
what should i convert my extra captain to?
my extra tactical marines?

cool sculpts matter, so does ease of use.

thanks

Well if you're planning on playing the first things you'll need are the 6th Edition rulebook (AOBR has 5th Edition rules) and the Space Marine codex.

You could get the Blood Angels codex instead and then you'll be able to use the Stormraven.

More than 7pts, less than 7000...just

If you're wanting to use everything you have, you've used up all 3 Elite slots already.

Make up the Tactical squads to 10 each, or you can't use the special and heavy weapons.
They might want rides, so get the Razorback kit, or the Rhino kit if you need the cheap option (the Razor kit is the same as the Rhino with a gun sprue).
Or, get drop pods, for the troops and/or the Dreads. Proxy them first, to make sure you want to go that way.
Drop pods can get locator beacons, to help the Terminators DS in.

For the Fast Assault slots, look at the Land Speeders.
They can be customised for almost any list.

The Captain is an expensive HQ. I'd use him as a Tactical Sergeant.
Librarians are always useful.

Bikes still good, and converting one of the Captains onto a bike will let you take bikers as troops.

Don't ignore Scout. Snipers are getting more use now, and can be used as backup for other squads.

I would say go BA, & use one of the Captains as a Libby.

Buy some DPs, Jump packs & Blood Talons, run as:

Captain in TDA (if blood angels can)
Libby

5-man assault marine squad
10-man Death Company <libby here>
2x DC dreads w/ Blood Talons, some dakka & a DP

5x Termies <Captain here>

Storm Raven <Termies+Captain here>

Then get some Vindicators
Obviously, you would need to remove the MLs & flamers, but I am sure that there is spare ccw/bp arms on the sprues.

so I storm raven in 10 tacs and a dreadnaught, use a drop pod for another dreadnaught and then beacon in the terminators. meanwhile- I send a squad of bikes and some tacs in a razorback up the middle (more or less)

No, I would send the nators in with the captain via Storm Raven, DS the two dreads in pods, have the DC & libby footslog & DS the assault marines

Not really, but then only if you do not show eachother your army lists.

You are supposed to tell your opponent anything about your load-out, including transport contents.
Unless you both agree to hide them.

How you use your dreads (and most stuff) depends on their loadout. I think we're assuming they're both from AoBR, with CCW and MM. If so, drop pods are their best option, unless they can get a ride in the transport.

I've never played a game where we didn't tell each other what was in the transports. If your group likes playing that way, so be it.

I'd take some time and read through the tactics forum here on Dakka. You'll get to read the Pros and Cons of lots of units there.

As mentioned, the first thing you need is the rulebook.

After that, what you need is more tac marines. As you are a new player, you're going to want to get very comfortable with how tac marines work. Armies rise or fall on their troops choices in 40k, and if you can't use yours right, things are going to be tough for you.

Pick up another 2 boxes of tac marines, and a box of devestators for the heavy weapons. Once you get used to the strengths and weaknesses of your core units, only then would I bother adding on new stuff.

Right now, you just don't have enough of them to do this.
