This issue came up at my LGS today.

Does Imotekh's lightning strike his allies of convenience?

On one side it notes that allies of convenience are considered enemy units. And, it specifies they cannot be the target of psychic abilites, shooting attacks, but not the grey area that is lightning between the two.
You can obviously scatter to, and flame your allies, but can they be the target?

Would you guys say all allies (non-battlebros) would take strikes from Imotekh's lightning?

I'd have to check the specific rule, but if it says that it hits all enemy units, and allies of convenience are treated as enemy units, then yes, Imotekh's lightning strike would hit your allies.

Kind of like how an Eldar's runes of warding would screw over allied psykers (of convenience, not Blood Brothers, of course).

it strikes "unengaged enemy" units

Hm, this would be perfect for killpoints. Just deploy your allies next to each other and immediately turn around and shoot/kill them for their kps. Yay

you cant get kill points for killing your own ally lol if lightning killed them your opponent would still get the kp

It doesn't work like that. You don't gain killpoints for killing something. You gain killpoints for models of the opposing player that die.

Not to mention you could probably find a better use for the points for something that could actively effect your game rather than die to friendly fire. (certain specialized armies like 'ork grots + epidemius' tally', or 'tau ethereal-icide' lists aside)

Since all the Necron special stuff isnt considered a shooting attack or a psychic power, you would have to roll to see if they get hit as they are considered enemy units.

None of the necron stuff is considered a psychic power. the necron codex contains absolutely no psychic abilities.

Blood for the bloo... wait no, I meant for Sanguinius!

That's not entirely correct. The "First Blood" rule says that when the first unit of any kind is removed as a casualty the opposing player gets a VP. So, the necron force could very well kill one of their own allies and give the opposing player a VP.

The Purge The Alien rule Primary Objective states that "Each player receives a VP for each enemy unit that has been completely destroyed". So technically, if necron allies are killed then both players get 1 point. LoL-tastic.
