For some odd reason I have been looking at nids lately even though I have never had an interest. Works out well since I am getting back into the game and have a clean start. Just wondering what some thoughts are on this rough outline of a nids list at 2k.

Updated list is 4 posts down!

HQ:
Hive Tyrant, Wings, 2x TL Devourer, Adrenal Glands

Tervigon, scything talons, acid blood, adrenal glands, toxin sacs

Elite:

3x Hive Guard

3x Hive Guard

3x Hive Guard

Troops:

Tervigon, scything talons, acid blood, adrenal glands, toxin sacs

Tervigon, scything talons, acid blood, adrenal glands, toxin sacs

18x Termagants

18x Termagants

6x Ripper Bases

6x Ripper Bases

Heavy Support:
Carnifex, 2x TL Devourer

Carnifex, 2x TL Devourer

Rough idea of the game plan would be rippers and 2 starting guant squads get out in front to apply pressure and act as a meat shield for the guards and tervigons coming up behind going after more important targets. Carnifex's act as fire support or to take down flyers. Hive Tyrant is just a very fast fire support unit that can race in to help where needed.

Against most armor I will probably just try to glance off all the hull points with my fex's and guards unless I get a tervigon close enough to go deal with it.

Of course going to be looking to play with the Biomancy powers to see what fun they could bring.

Shooty units are just as good now, so nice choice on the Tervies.

Do Rippers have "Feed"? Keep 'em out of Synapse if so, I've seen Hormagaunts do well with +2 attacks on the charge.

Biomancy powers are fun. Can you take Telekinesis? A chance to roll "Gate of Infinity" is.... Lolz.

Looks fairly solid.

Rippers are not great really, S6+ instant death plus no scoring makes them so-so, plus without upgrades they don't do much damage, and upgrades make them expensive. I would prefer more gaunts, and possibly some gaunts with devourers. (And then you could put the third Tervigon in troops too..)

Acid blood is not great either. Consider Crushing Claws instead of Scything Talons on the Tervigons; with the new smash attacks Crushing Claws make Tervigons excellent in close combat.

Brainleech Devourers now shred hull points, so good calls on that, you have a lot of good anti-mech in here.

Hope this is useful.

I would drop acid blood on the Tervigons, combat for them is not a very good place, and your termagants should be able to protect them. Catalyst would serve a much stronger purpose here.

Rippers are one of the worst choices in the codex. 120 points of a very bad non-scoring units is not very good.

I would recommend sizing down the number of termagants in each squad, minimum squad size is generally enough to tarpit and to shield. In addition, I sometimes have trouble maneuvering with large units, and large units could hinder your more important heavy hitters.

With these changes you will have a 200 points to spend on things much more menacing. Genestealers or another carnifex would be my first thought.

Not keen on:

single flyer - would put the tyrant on foot. Any rapid firing unit only needs a single 6 for the risk of taking a S9 hit.

tervigons - acid blood not really required

termagants - only taken min 10 strong broods to make the tervigons troops, or give them devourers and make them useful

rippers - poor, points better spent elsewhere

I like the mass of hive guard and TL devourers marching down the field though. Trim the rippers and acid blood and you're nearly there on a 3rd carnifex to be honest. I know which I'd rather have ...

Thanks for the comments, I think this helps me trim the fat and move some points around

revised list

HQ:

3x Hive Guard

3x Hive Guard

Troops
10x Termagants

10x Termagants

10x Termagants

Fast Attack
10x Gargoyles

10x Gargoyles

10x Gargoyles

Heavy Support

Canifex w 2x TL Devourer

Canifex w 2x TL Devourer

I swapped most of the buffs off my Tervigons to cram in lots of Gargoyles to provide early cover for my big boys. They also fill the gap of early game rushing unit to tie up things I would rather not have shooting at my pricy units.
