I don't remember if I read an article here on Dakka or someone replied to a thread and I read it there but I remember someone mentioning a European forum that was dedicated strictly to painting miniatures and helping with advice and critiques, does anyone know of this mystery forum that I speak of, I did a search and came up with nothing, I have been searching for a week or so and it is starting to eat away at my sanity because I can not find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am looking for a form that deals with nothing but painting miniatures so that I can post my stuff and get honest advice and critiques so that I can become a better painter.

The guys on Coolminiornot.com are both brutal and brilliant. They can do things with paints that I can only dream of, and they don't usually mind drowning a person in their failures. Not to say they are rude (of course you will find those that are, but that's irrelevant), but to say that they will point out things you didn't notice or that you messed up, and make excellent suggestions as to mending those gaps in your abilities. Just keep yourself open to others ideas and concepts and you're on your way to golden.

Otherwise, start uploading some images and post them here for critique. I've found their is a wonderful community of respectful patrons that are more than willing to give tips, tricks, and sources for where people think they're lacking. I've learned quite a bit myself from others here on more fronts than I can count, and that opened my network to other places, that, in turn, also helped me with my skills.

Best of luck.

We do that here on dakka. One problem many people have is that most users are afraid to post blunt criticisms here because they think it violates Rule #1 and that the poster can't bear to hear anything negative.

I've seen threads where the poster specifically says NOT to give negative feedback, which was entirely stupid. We aren't here to stroke your ego and coddle you. The internet itself tends to do the exact opposite of that.

So if you post here, and you ask for honest to God criticism, you will get it, and it will generally be worded politely in keeping with the aforementioned Rule #1.

The only thing here to be mindful of is where to post things. P&M is for things like WiP and asking questions. Showcase is strictly for models that are completed AND based.

Also, if you browse those two forums often, you will learn who has the qualifications to critique from a technical standpoint. Anyone can give their opinion on a model, but not everyone can offer educated advice on the techniques used or those that should be used. CMON doesn't take that into account when people give ratings. I've seen some rather decent work that is deserving of a 7-8 from a technical stance that received a 5.

When I ask for C&C, I look at who is saying what. I don't generally care for people who say "cool model" and nothing else. That isn't criticism, it's a compliment. I'm confident enough in my work that I don't need compliments. They don't really accomplish anything in the means of me improving. When Wynterdine or Gareth comment on my models with criticism, it's like Christmas for me. They are well established painters and they say things that push me to improve.

Dakka is a diverse place, and in the painting category we have some of the worlds best painters who are willing to offer advice.

Also, while I am certainly NOT one of the best painters here, I am rather informed on techniques and such. I am always willing to offer advice on where to improve, and I am more than willing to receive that advice from others. Feel free to PM me pics or links to your work and I'll give the Gods honest truth about them in as polite a manner as I can.

Unless you are that 14 year old from England who I'm pretty sure was trolling with pics of CSM who looked like circus clowns painted with a goat tail by a blind person. Then again I only raged at that because he called them "pro painted" in his swap shop thread.
