Subject: Herald of Slaanesh with chariot bonus stats, or not?

Codex states you get lots of nice stats increase if you ride a chariot with your slaaneshi herald.
White dwarf codex update dont tell us to ignore that statement, but rather change the option of chariot to specific chariots (namely the new ones rather than a generic chariot)
So, you should still get stats increase (as well as some special rules), because the herald is still riding a chariot.
I agree the WD update ought to replace that whole paragraf/option, but it dont.
The whole codex section on slaanesh chariot has turned a bit fussy, and Im unsure what to make of it (It basicly comes down to more attacks and furious assault making a difference to the heralds weak stats, and a tactical advantage compared to the Alluress).
How would you lerned men and women of dakka read it?

If you want a chariot of slaanesh you would use either of the two offered in the WD article as they are printed there. I think you pretty much can not take the chariot option for a slaanesh herald in the codex any longer so no bonuses.

I get that; the update clearly tells us what kind of options are available for the Herald.
In the codex however, the bonus for riding the old chariot is written as if it would apply to any kind of chariot in the service of slaanesh.
But reading it again, the codex present the increased stats as "chariot of slaanesh", not as Herald of Slaanesh. And RAW, a "chariot of slaanesh" is not a "seeker chariot", "hellflayer" or whatever.
There is a semantic problem though, as long as we have chariots and chariots.
Newer mind, Im rambling.

The wording you mentioned means that you don't get the stats bonus on the new Chariots, so that's settled at least.
There's still an issue with the option for the old-style chariot, though. Namely - the Codex entry is still there and not replaced by the update, so you can still take it - stats bonus and all. But if you do - how do you follow the normal chariot rules? Or do you not follow them at all, which raises the question of what is/isn't a chariot as defined by the 6th ed BRB?

The Chariot of Slaanesh option in the dex is NOT a vehicle so CANNOT follow the Chariot rules. Which it wouldnt anyway because it does not have "chariot" in its unit type

Heres the deal: A herald of slaanesh, according to the codex, get some bonuses if she rides a chariot.
Now, if a Herald of Slaanesh ride a seeker chariot (for example), she still rides a chariot, and would strictly speaking be granted the listed bonuses under "chariot of slaanesh" . This because the codex speaks about the Heralds stats and special rules, not mentioning the chariot in the actual text (but goes on to give a stat line called Chariot of Slaanesh)
As the text now is written, the codex entry first list some bonuses made to the Herald if she rides (an undefined) chariot, then give the profile for Chariot of slaneesh.
This would not have been a problem if GW had nullified the entry "chariot of slaanesh" by saing the WD update replace the section of the codex describing slaaneshi chariots.
Im not trying to squeeze in some tecnical advantage here, just want to sort it out, because its open for debate.
Personally Im inclined to dismiss the whole paragraf "chariot of slaanesh, as a new FAQ probably will anyway.

The "Chariot of Slaanesh" is a very specific piece of wargear, it's not just some arbitrary title for any chariot a Slaanesh Herald rides. You only follow the rules for that piece of wargear if you purchased it. There's no problem here, you either buy the old Chariot and follow its rules, or buy the new ones and follow theirs. Also, note that they lose the Independent Character rule (making them ineligible to ride in a proper chariot I believe) and further become cavalry (definitely making them ineligible to ride in a proper chariot) so even if this loophole did exist it would only ruin the Chaos Daemons player's ability to use chariots.

To clarify, the problem is that the old chariots are, rulewise, nonexistant, its just an increase to the heralds profile.
The Codex still grant those bonuses if the herald rides a chariot, RAW.
Edit: yes chariots of Slaanesh is only associated with hellflayers and seeker chariots by fluff. End of discussion. Thank you.

From what I can tell it's 3 separate chariot options the original psuedo chariot for less points gives you a fine stat boost and some bonus abilities and cavalry at the expense of going solo, the seeker chariot is basically an open-top transport vehicle that allows the herald to make attacks off of it as if it was near an access point and otherwise counts as a seeker chariot allowing it to join a cavalcade, and the more expensive exalted chariot is just seeker chariot +. Each has it's merits and advantages for the points you put in but they are distinct upgrades.

Incorrect. They get those benefits from riding Chariots of Slaanesh. A Hellflayer is not a Chariot of Slaanesh. Ditto a Seeker chariot. The clue is that the names are not the same.

Thank you for returning to this week old thread and repeating the conclusions that was already made.
I assure you, Im quite satisfied to treat "chariot of slaanesh" as the specific piece of wargear its supposed to be.
My original error was to read the entry for chariot of slaanesh as a general rule, not a wargear description.
And as a general rule, in the light of WD update and 6th ed, reference to chariot of slaanesh would RAW point to seeker chariot and hellflayer (especially since the update has more or less removed "chariot of Slaanesh" as a reference ).
I hoped this would be clear with my edit, but forum posting can never be clear enough I guess. Sorry about the confusion.

Viru posted to this week old thread, I thought it was worth clarifying.
RAW does NOT point to CHariot of Slaanesh as being a seeker or hellflayer, as pointed out.
