Hello guys,
I'm new to 40k and Warhammer in general and I have chosen Space Wolves as my army. I have put together this list based on what I already have (Assault on Black Reach marines) and what I can get in the Battleforce (and some extras such as rhinos , devastators for long fangs and a rune priest). I would love to get some feedback on this list as it is the first one I have put together .
<HQ>
Rune Priest (130 Pts)
-Runic Armour
-Chooser of the Slain
-Living Lightning and Storm Caller
<Troops>
9x Grey Hunters (205 Pts)
Rune Priest joins this squad
-Wolf Standard
-Mark of the Wulfen
-1x Plasma gun
-Rhino
10x Grey Hunters (215 Pts)
-Wolf Standard
-Mark of the Wulfen
-2x Melta gun
-Rhino
9x Grey Hunters (210 Pts)
-Wolf Standard
-Mark of the Wulfen
-Flamer
-Power Weapon
-Drop Pod
<Elites>
5x Wolf Scouts (100 Pts)
-Melta gun
-3x Melta bombs [ignore this bit, I miss read the codex ]
<Heavy Support>
5x Long Fangs and one Squad Leader (140 Pts)
-5x Missile Launcher
This is a starting point for me to build my army from. I was considering dropping the last Grey Hunter pack, giving the Drop pod to the second and taking some Wolf Guard, but I decided to get some feedback first
{Edited to fix the fact that I completely mis-read the codex entry on Wolf Scouts}

Some obvious notes - You can't give meltabombs to some Wolf scouts - it's either all or none. Also, with the new outflank rules, they can't assault anything after they appear on the table, so it's best to keep them in the suicide pack role with one bare meltagun. I'd also switch the weapons on Rhino - Drop Pod packs to keep plasma weapons in the Drop Pod, since on the turn it comes down the pack can't do anything apart of blazing with their weapons - makes sense to put out four rapid-plasma shots from two plasmaguns and MAYBE a plasma pistol.

Ok, thanks for the tip about the Wolf Scouts, I some how missed the bit in the codex that says "The entire squad may take:" . I'll also look into the weapon set-ups on the GH packs when I get time to redo the list

Some comments about this...
first of all...Put the rune priest with the Long Fangs and take Divination powers.
Second, give the power weapon and the drop pod to the squad with meltaguns in it. The Drop Pod is the easiest way to get close enough to use those meltaguns and the Rhino will probably be wrecked before you get close enough. After you hop out of the drop pod and melta the enemy in the face, you'll want that power weapon to deal with the inevitable assault that comes after.
Personally, I think the scouts won't be able to pay for themselves. But you bought the battleforce and the scouts came with them right? If you're going to use the scouts I would get rid of the melta bombs ( you have to take one for each scout or none at all by the way). That 15 points is enough to get one more Grey hunter and complete one of the squads to 10 men. Do this with your first squad, and you can have 2 plasmaguns in that squad for no extra cost since the second special weapon is free. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh yeah...and make sure to keep ALL THREE GH squads. Do NOT drop one for wolf guard. At 1000 points, the wolf guard will struggle to pay for themselves, but the extra troop will make it easier to capture objectives. In fact, you may want to consider exchanging this squad...
For these
This way you can hang out on objectives close to your deployment zone and harrass the enemy with plasma+bolter fire while the other GH squads can advance to take the forward objectives under the cover of your long fangs' missiles.

If you want to keep the Wolf Scouts go with a Plasma Gun and Plasma Pistols and tack on a MotW.
Yes put the Rune Priest with the Long Fangs, Divination is Optimal.
Grey Hunters: Pod all of your Grey Hunters or none of them. Make them full 10 man Packs.
Other than that it looks good.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys, as I said earlier, I will reconfigure the list when I get the time so I can use some of the ideas you have mentioned.
Also, just to clarify, this list was based on what I WOULD be able to get in the battleforce and what I already have from Black Reach (I will be getting the battleforce as it would work out as the cheapest way to get the troops I need AND the drop pod-the scouts are just extras), I haven't got the battleforce yet, as I haven't saved up quite enough just yet

I would agree with the more GH the better. I usually run mine in a group of 8-9 to accomodate a wolf guard, but that is up to you. I would also agree with the all Drop Pod, or none Drop Pod. I am still a fan of Rhinos, but they are more fragile in 6th.
I would do the following:
1x Rune Priest
2x10 GHs (Rhino, 2x Meltas, 1x MotW, 2x WS)
1x10 GHs (Rhino, 2x Plasma, 1x WS
2x6 LFs (5x MLs)
My only concern would be CC, but if you cut down one of the GH squads to just a 5-man with a flamer and put then in a RB. You could then add some upgrades to the rest of your squads to help with CC (PWs, Plasma Pistol, and MotW).

With the Wolf Standards and MotW, you should have little issues with Close Combat, with Counter Attack and all.

I have found that Wolf Standards and MotW make GH better against most other troop units, but against some CC oriented units they seem to have a tougher battle. Also I am trying to think about DPs, and the like, seeing that with some good moves a DP could avoid most of the fire. Also MotW is such a hit/miss for me that I don't rely on it for CC very often.

The trick I have found with the Wolf Standard is too actually to Activate it during your Assault Phase, when you are sure you are going to be Assaulted. It won’t come into effect until His Assault Phase. Now he has the choice of assaulting you with you getting re-roll all of your 1’s including your Overwatch Fire. This will force him to decide whither to Assault you or give you another turn of Shooting at him.

Interesting! I never actually really thought of it as more of a deterrent. I will have to start using it more like that. 6th edition has caused me to rethink some of my strategy as of lately.

Just remember to have your rule book handy for when your opponent goes “What do you mean it activates in the Next Assault Phase?”

Sorry to resurrect what is effectively a dead thread but I have finally got round to writing my new list based on your feedback:
<HQ>
Rune Priest (130 Pts)
-Runic Armour
-Chooser of the Slain
-Divination Powers
<Troops>
10x Grey Hunters (220 Pts)
-Wolf Standard
-Mark of the Wulfen
-2x Plasma gun
-Rhino
10x Grey Hunters (230 Pts)
-Wolf Standard
-Mark of the Wulfen
-2x Melta gun
-Power Weapon
-Drop Pod
10x Grey Hunters (210 Pts)
-Wolf Standard
-Mark of the Wulfen
-Flamer
-Rhino
<Elites>
5x Wolf Scouts (90 Pts)
-Mark of the Wulfen
<Heavy Support>
4x Long Fangs and one Squad Leader (115 Pts)
Rune Priest joins this pack
-4x Missile Launcher
[Total: 995 Pts]
I have reduced the size of the LF pack to accommodate the Rune Priest. Also, I have left one of the 10 man packs with only one special weapon as I'm not sure if I will end up with the bits to add one in.
Finally, I have kept the same transport config ( 2 Rhinos and 1 Drop Pod) as it is what I will be able to get cheaply (I won an eBay auction and got one Rhino for less than one would normally cost, and a drop pod comes in the battleforce)
