Can Space wolves use combat squads? I just can't seem to find it in the rulebook I may have just missed it though...

No, they cannot.

They don't need to, since they can take 5 man squads with special weapons anyway.

They may not 'need to' but it would be so cool if they did

Why, the only real difference between two units of five and one unit of ten split into two squads of five is that the two squads of five take up two force org troop slots.

Its also nice to be able to go from 6 to 12 scoring units if necessary. At some point, limited troop choice slots does come into play.

That and now you can have the two combat squads in a single transport.

Wow, SW players complaining that vanilla marines can do something they can't!?! What's next, GK complaining about their lack of stormshield terminators?

TBH, wolf scouts have some negatives. No access to stealth is a bit of a pain. Just saying.

I am not putting a hq choice in my army just to give it to one squad, to hell with that. Plus that is like 80 points(some wargear costs in there too) to put it on a squad of 5 dudes. I think your scouts get it for 15? Not so great. Especially since a saga is limited to 1 per army which would be better used on a big squad of GH with attached WG in TDA.

'I don't want to' is not quite the same as 'can't'...

While you are technically right, the YMDC kind of right () I still can't have stealth on the squad, just on an attached IC which grants it to the squad. Yes they get stealth but not for themselves.

Your initial complaint was about not having access to Stealth, not about not being able to take it themselves...

True, but throwing a melta into the mix, or having snipers with BS 4, or extra special shiny outflank, or any number of boosts kinda helps that -1 to save in cover sting a little less

Not being a scoring unit, and being elite in an army that have to waste an elite choise just to get unit leaders is kind of the biggest downer with wolf scouts IMO.

Well, technically, Camo Cloaks don't give stealth, just +1 Cover save.

Taking Telion to get stealth is another 50.

It's 227 points for 10 Scouts w/ Cloaks and Telion (227 since Telion already comes with a cloak)

Sorry by bad it's just BA scouts that get stealth with cammo cloaks.

All camo cloaks, including BA ones, are errata'd to give +1 to Cover saves instead of Stealth now.

Oh come on...SW's can do so many other better things.
Example...Wolf Scouts can go behind enemy lines. Vanilla scouts...cant. Grey Hunters, Blood Claws, Wolf Guard all have the counter-attack USR for free. Vanilla marines ... don't. Long Fangs can take 5 heavy weapons and split fire for less points than it costs vanilla marines to have only 4.

And so on. I'm sorry, I'll take the "can't combat squad" and "Drop pod capacity of 10 instead of 12" problems for all of this stuff. There has to be some trade off for all of the space wolves bad-ass-ness.

This ^. Do you want your wolf scout snipers to have an awesome cover save? Put them behind an Aegis Defense Line. Problem solved.
