Battle brothers!
Been refining my 1500 point list, trying to have a good all-comers list nailed down before I go buying bunches of models. First, Ill give you the list and cost, then break it down into why I did some of the things I did and some general tactical considerations.
Total List;
HQ = 365 pts
Wolf Priest
---Rune Armor
---Wolf Tail Talisman
Rune Priest
---Terminator Armor
Rune Priest
---Terminator Armor
Elites = 585 pts
5x Wolf Guard Terminators
---1x Cyclone Missile Launcher
5x Wolf Guard Terminators
---1x Cyclone Missile Launcher
5x Wolf Guard Terminators
---1x Cyclone Missile Launcher
Troops = 320 pts
10x Grey Hunters
---2x Plasma Guns
10x Grey Hunters
---2x Plasma Guns
Heavy Support = 230 pts
5x Long Fangs Pack
---4x Missile Launchers
5x Long Fangs Pack
---4x Missile Launchers
I built an all infantry army for a few reasons; a) I get more enjoyment out of collecting them over vehicles or dreads, b) I don't really like bringing vehicles to game...just preference!, and c) I really like having a back story, and I feel it's easier to do with character models than vehicles.
Here is what I believe this army brings to the table;
-HUGE anti-armor capabilities(Living Lightning against lighter vehicles, Plasma Guns against lighter vehicles/skimmer, and Missile Launchers/Cyclones against heavy armor)
-Extremely tough stuff: I've had bad experiences with armor penetration in the past, hence my bent towards terminators( LOVE EM, EVERY LAST ONE!). I even went through a phase of rocking Lone Wolves with Terminator with Storm Shields. Yikes!
-Decent barrage capability: I can sit my Rune Priests back with the Long Fangs and pelt the enemy at 48". It's decent range, considering the board we usually play on is 6' x 4', so that's almost the entire map.
The real versatility comes from, I believe, the Rune Priests. I can have them as long range barrage and survivability units, sitting in the back with the Long Fangs while using Living Lightning and Storm Caller/Tempest's Wrath for survivability, or I can use them as shock troops with Jaws of the World Wolf with a pack of Terminators, up front annihilating smaller troops while protecting the Terminators from assault with Murderous Blizzard. Finally, I can use them as an anti-psychic force with their terminators, marching up but maintaining distance to Grey Knights, nullifying their Spells while softening them up with the longer ranged weaponry, before charging in with the Grey Hunters and, hopefully, cleaning them up for a good cost-for-cost trade.
Would love some thoughts on the list! Please post any comments/suggestions/criticism/flames below!

Well your Rune Priest needs different Wargear.
Unless you already have the Rune Priest up I would not bother with the Terminator Armor. You might even consider taking Njal.
If you are putting the Wolf Priest with the Wolf Guard I would put him in Terminator Armor.
Other than that it looks similar to what I run.

Thanks for the reply!
Yeah, I intend to run Njal when facing real scary psycher armies(like Grey Knights), but I think this version is better for most other game types. Why would you say no Terminator for the Priests? I'm running them terminators, usually, when I'm putting them with the Long Fangs I'll probably drop the armor and give the Wolf Priests Terminator squad Wolf Claws, plus some other fun stuff for the Wolf Priest. Figure even though I would have "Look out, sir!" up most the time, when it gets down to challenges and other Independent Characters I wanted to make sure I didn't get singled out and slaughtered with just power armor.
I don't have Terminator Armor for the Wolf Priest because he already has a 4+ Invulnerable save from the Wolf Charm he has by default, so it would be a waste of his grenades, imo. Tossed him into Rune armor, for the 2+, but preserved his Grenades for utility rather than the Storm Bolter(he already has power weapon). Plus, if I do drop the terminator from the Rune Priests, might as well hook him up with a Plasma pistol!
Thanks mate!
EDIT: You know mate, I just had a good read at your post in your signature and had a few things to say.
Firstly, love the post, was pretty eye opening for a newer player. Secondly, I think I'll include Logan in my lists under 750 pts from now on, and here's why.
Probably the biggest thing that irks me is that I have to "waste" at the minimum 150 pts on Grey Hunters for any given game. Don't get me wrong; in most armies they are a great choice! Relatively robust, both ranged and CCW, etc. But, I find I prefer terminators in most cases and end up taking 2x5 Grey Hunters, simply to get my Troop choices out of the way. If you count that 150 as "wasted" with Logan, then just drop his point cost by 150 down to a mere 125 pts then invest in terminators as troops.
Wow.
I have to completely redesign my army now!

I run a 1500 point Foot list with Logan/Njal/Björn that does real well, I have only lost twice with it. It would not be hard to do a Logan/Njal or Logan/Rune Priest list with all terminators and be competitive.

First...I think your army list is really solid. I don't really see anything to complain about except that your Rune priests have to have different wargear. You probably just want to take one of them with power armor and leave him back with the long fangs to use Divination powers.
Consider switching a CML or two for assault cannons. Use any points saved to give a 5 man unit of terminators some combi-plasmas.

If you want to do an all terminator army and still be competetive, you can certainly do a Logan-wing. But frankly, I think that Dark Angels will do a better job at this. Even vanilla space marines - they can take TH/ SS assault terminators in drop pods for cheaper than space wolves and they're probably more effective.
As for "wasting" 150 points on Grey Hunters - I guess it's a matter of taste - but IMHO Grey Hunters are one of the best troop units in the entire game. Instead of trying to take fewer Grey Hunters (which makes them less effective), you should figure out how to take more of them. Two units of 5 grey hunters really is a waste of 150 points because they aren't capable of doing anything except sitting on an objective in the back field. But two units of 10 grey hunters each with two plasmaguns and a stock wolf priest is a force to be worried about. They will ruin a terminator's day.

@Anpu: Can you post your list of with the 3 heavy HQs with some tactical advices? I see a lot of point sink and I don't know how you can deal with AV13.

Well here is my current incarnation.
Space Wolves Roster: 1500 Loganwing
Bjorn the Fell-Handed, 290 pts (Twin-Linked Lascannon)
Logan Grimnar, The Great Wolf, 275 pts
Logan’s Wolf Guard Pack, 433 pts
>1x Arjac Rockfist, The Anvil of Fenris
>2x Wolf Guard in Terminator Armour (Storm Bolter; Power Fist)
>2x Wolf Guard in Terminator Armour (Storm Bolter; Chainfist)
>1x Wolf Guard in Terminator Armour (Power Maul; Assault Cannon)
Njal Stormcaller, Lord of Tempests, 270 pts (Runic Terminator Armour; Bolt Pistol; Staff of the Stormcaller {WYSIWYG Runic Axe})
Njal’s Wolf Guard Pack, 228 pts
>5x Wolf Guard in Terminator Armour (Power Sword; Storm Bolter)
>1x Wolf Guard in Terminator Armour (Power Sword; Storm Bolter; Cyclone Missile Launcher)
Total Roster Cost: 1496
AV13 is not that much of an issue, especially with the change I needed to make to Björn, normally he has an Assault Cannon, but 6th made him a little to fragile to be a front line fighter, so I am going with the Las Cannon. Normally he covered Logan’s Flank, but now he is probably be covering Njal’s Flank.
This ended up costing me a Frost Blade in Njal’s Wolf Guard. One I get in close with Logan, not much can deal with him and Arjac. In my last game I lost Arjac before I got close [just how many 1’s can you roll at once, ask me I’ll tell you] and then just started eating up Khorne Berserkers like candy including a Chaos Sorcerer. My Wolf Guard in Logan’s Wolf Guard with the Power Maul also inflicted a lot of casualties even with the 3+ Saves.
I usually just put Njal on a high point [I am thinking of getting a Bastion] and just rain down Lighting on my foes.
RE: Terminators only. I think you might be playing the wrong army if you want a full terminator army. GH + LF is just too efficient, it is ridiculous.

Wow. Anpu's list looks like a fun one to play and is definitely in the spirit of space wolves being character driven. But I just can't take it seriously when there are only 15 models in this 1500 point army.

This is more typical of my list currently. Is still a little on the Points sink on my Characters, but then I am very hard on myself when it come with WYSIWYG.

But in any case, it mostly looks like a good list. The only thing I would change is trashing most of the wargear on your 230 point rune priest and getting a second 100 point character instead.

If I went for a mostly Termy army, I'd still keep Long Fangs. I can't pass up 5x Missile Launchers with FC for only 125 pts. Add into that either an RP or WP and we got some real pain!
But, I would like to replace the bulk with Termy. Keep my pewpew but have lots of armor to soak up fire.

I've run a similar army in the past. Ultimately, I think it lacked punch.
I would probably run something similar to what Purgatus advocates on his blog in the way of
Logan Grimnar
Wolf Guard x 4 w/Bolters, 1 WG Terminator w/Power Axe, Cyclone
Wolf Guard x 4 w/Bolters, 1 WG Terminator w/Power Axe, Cyclone
Wolf Guard x 4 w/Bolters, 1 WG Terminator w/Power Axe, Cyclone
Wolf Guard x 4 w/Bolters, 1 WG Terminator w/Power Axe, Cyclone
Wolf Guard x 4 w/Bolters, 1 WG Terminator w/Power Axe, Cyclone
Wolf Guard x 4 w/Bolters, 1 WG Terminator w/Power Axe, Cyclone
With either 3 packs of missile fangs, or a logan bomb (although I'd rather have 15 extra missiles).
It's hard to scale down to 1500 pts and this may not be the best way to do it... lol

Njal Stormcaller, Lord of Tempests, 270 pts (Runic Terminator Armour; Bolt Pistol; Staff of the Stormcaller {WYSIWYG Runic Axe}) Was curious about that. I have the Njal with Rune Stave, but was thinking of converting it into Rune Axe. What's your opinion on either? 5 strength should get me mostly wounds, but I don't like striking with Unwieldy...seems dangerous! Plus, Concussive weapons can be pretty useful vs. enemy characters! I would probably drop off the 2 pack of Grey Hunters from my main list, add Logan, drop termy for my HQs, then add in another pack of Terminators for a total of 4x5 WG with Terminator, Logan + WP + 2xRP and 2x5 LF with Missiles. Could also drop a pack of Terminators for 2x5 more LF with Missiles for a total of 4 pack of missile LF. Not bad. Not bad at all!

No matter how you convert it, every rune priest (including Njal) is armed with an unusual force weapon. It's a force weapon with extra CC rules (wounds demons on 2+) therefore, no matter how you convert it, it will always be Strength as user AP3 at intitiative. That's in the BRB.
It sucks, I know.

I don’t do tournaments, so I tend to do a lot more Fun list like my Thunderwolf Top Gear List or my Logan/Njal/Björn List. I find the completive list boring actually.
As far as the Rune Priest/Long Fang Combo it keeps working for me so keep using it.

Idk, I find ungeared HQ choices(for SW anyways) a waste. With just their basic gear, they can easily get picked out by enemy IC or SC with directed fire. Even with LOS I wouldn't trust it! A mere 20 pts gets you an upgraded ranged weapon and a 2+/5+i save, which imo is worth it.
As far as Master Rune Priest, imo it's generally not worth it, unless that RP is up and in the enemies face. I look at it as almost 2 Cyclone Missile Launchers or almost 4 sets of Termy armor for my Wolf Guard Packs!
