Yes, that was not a typo, it's 175 points.

Here's the low down. End of august there is a small thing that's happening at my FLGS. The rules are

175 points
HQ slot only
No named characters
Has to be solo

I'm not sure who or what to run with. I have a couple of options

The Great Unclean One with Might.

Sash'o with a Shield Drone (not sure if this is considered wargear or additions to the unit ), Missile Pod, Plasma Rifle, Bonding Knife, HW Black Sun Filter, HW DC, HW Multi Tracker, Iridium Armor, Shield Generator.

Blood Angels Captain in Terminator Armor with TH/SS

Bare Hive Tyrant, or Tervigon.

The "Arena" will be 2ft by 2ft. What do you guys think? I'm thinking the Sash'o, I would go with an 'el, but kitting it would with a lot doesn't add near to 75 points and the extra BS and wound may come in use. Plus it doesn't take a hard point so it gets an invul. Other than that maybe unclean one?

A Great Unclean One is just going to be a giant target. Though, I suppose if you go first and make it into combat, it'll ruin things days.

The best might be a Biomancy Hive Tyrant. Or a Tervigon.

A Shield Drone is an extra model, as it can attack and such. Individual Commanders are probably pretty meh, as you can't take any body guards.

The Captain would probably be very survivable, and can ID any Marine Equivs.

SW Wolf Lord + Mount + Storm Shield = 175 pts.

Gives you 5 S & T, with 6 WS w/ 5 base Rending Attack(!), all rolled in a nice 3+ Invulnerable Save package. Great stat lineup, long range charge and movement(in case they try to juke you with Jump Packs), and a super ferocious charge.

4 wounds to boot, but anything with 10 strength might just one shot ya if you're not careful!

True enough an unclean one is a giant target but T6 with 5 wounds and EW means he wont die very fast. the board is only a 2ft arena, so I fear close combat WILL happen no mater what I have to say about it, its why im kind of hesitant on puting a crisis suit in there. sure I can shoot but when it comes to blows he's going to die.SW lord sounds awesome but I don't have the model.

Could run a chaos marine terminator, with the whole power weapon thing being AP3 now i'll get my 2+'s vs normal power stuff, and he's T5 so instant death via hammer isnt an issue. If mark of khorne I get +2D6 attacks.

Unclean one also hits on a 2+ reguardless, but the tyrant with parox scares me with 5's to hit.

Unless they disallow the Tervigon from spawning gaunts I'd take the T6 W6 MC that makes babies.

We played something similar at the end of 5th, except our point total was 250 points. If the rules are similar you will be limited to a single model, which means no shield drones, and no termigaunts. Furthermore moves like Gift of Chaos do remove from play, but don't place a spawn.

A Winged Tzeentch Prince with Gift and Bolt took the game handily, with a Necron Lord barely edging out my dakka Tyrant for Second.

The Prince won because he could spam instant death attacks. Bolt of Change is s8, and if the Princes turn starts close to somebody he can double cast gift to try to instantly kill them and then move on to his next target. He won't really be viable though, because Gift was more important than Bolt, and Wings + Mark + Gift is 180 points. Too expensive!

I don't know much about necrons, but MSS and Warscythe are great for this type of thing, however being slow, and limited to a single tachyon arrow for ranged attacks, Necron Lords can have trouble getting kills if people stay away from them.

I wouldn't do a Tyrant, my Tyrant did so well because I could load up on the points and make him good at everything. 2 sets of Devourers forces a lot of saves, and then reward people who close in with preferred enemy, toxin sacs, and implant attacks. Sure if you can roll the right biomancy powers you'll be a menace, but you can't afford Devourers or Wings, so you'll be slow with nothing in the way of ranged attacks unless you go for scream- which further limits your chances of getting the right Biomancy powers. Not a good way to rack up kills.

Now that you can pre-measure until your hearts content, if the Board is large, a Farseer might a killer choice

(170) Farseer- Warding, Bike, Spirit Stones, Fortune, Mindwar

Just short on points to pick up Witnessing. Farseer is cool because you seriously screw over enemy psychers, and with pre-measuring you can line up your target for mindwar, blast em from 18 inches away, then Eldar Jetbike Assault Move away, and hope that they can't catch you. You can also turbo boost if you need to put on some extra distance.

a Chaos Lord also has a better chance then before. Nurgle and/or Biker Lords benefited a lot from the changes to Stat Modifiers.

(175) Chaos Lord- Mark of Tzeentch or Nurgle, Bike, Power Fist, Combi Melta

That gives you a model with great speed, solid hitting power, and can potentially cause some good instant death. a Nurgle Terminator Lord may be viable, but I recon that hes too slow, and not shooty enough to make up for that.

Hope some of that helps .

It does help. I have a feeling people will be stocking up on 2+ armors and most HQ's already have invuls (except the poor tyrant) so I'm not sure what to do.

Actually, got a new one for ya;

Dark Eldar Archon
---Husblade x2
---Combat Drugs
---Shadow Field
---Phantasm Grenade Launcher
---Ghost Armor

Total cost is 175 pts

What you get? 7 WS, 3 Wounds, "Force" Weapon(no roll needed) with a second one for the +1 attack(Specialist Weapons, BRB pg 42) with 5 base attacks and 7 Initiative.

Also, the combat drugs are variable, but COULD also get;
-Feel No Pain(1 Pain Token) OR
-8 WS OR
-6 Base Attack OR
-8 Initiative

WS BS S T W I A LD SV
7 7 3 3 3 7 5 10 2+Invuln

If you do land a wound, instant death. Oh yeah, 2+ Invulnerable save. If it failes, you're likely dead anyways, so meh...got a Ghost Armor for a miracle save in the case your SF does break and you don't get sneezed on!

You could also trade a Huskblade for a Venom Blade, for a 4+ guaranteed wound for some of those crazy 7+ T heroes...Get to keep your extra attack too since they're both Specialist

The Twilight Zone

I like the dark eldar archon, although I would try to throw in a soul trap, being that if you kill a single model you can activate it and double your strength. The huskblade is nice, but S3 is going to hurt against tyrants and such. Maybe also consider a blast pistol

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

True, but a Huskblade and a Venom Blade allows you to pick which one to use in combat, so for harder things use your Venom and rely on volume over one-hit-kills. Blast pistol, though, is a great idea! Might as well have a chance for a wound before combat!

Soul Trap would, I'm afraid, be useless, because there are no extra models allowed in the tourny; just one character model. If you could, like go against a Mek with some Grots, imagine that same Archon with Str 10+ -.-

EDIT: Actually looked it up, the Venom Blade is a 2+ Wound...very useful! Also, instead of Venom, a Djinn Blade could be taken for 2 extra attacks, and it has AP 3, but I'm sure most enemy units will be rocking the 2+ save...still worth a look!

Maybe, I know some people will be running T6 models, be it MC's or people on bikes. There will also be a necron overlord there.
