Lately I have seen a couple of board games and card games that don't ask you to fight each other but fight a common enemy, hence a teamwork game more than a pvp game.
I think that having scenarios which requires 2 players to work together at a point level would be pretty fun.
Of course we could play in house rule right now by ourselves but it would be pretty cool to see GW support it.
Scenarios could be like:
Ward off the Chaos Lord, so like Dawn of War 2: Retribution you would have to work your way through tasks and objectives then you could attempt to "kill" the boss. And the boss would be a model equivalent to maybe like 2000 points of stuff.
Swarm of the Tyranids: Have 10 turns of Tyranids swarm the field infinitely so you just have to defend and maintain your position maybe with some stuff and equipment that would help you.
And of course there could be more and better ways to implement it, but it would seem like a cool idea and a good way for GW to sell some crazy models maybe Chaos Gods even.

My group plays cooperative campaigns. We split into two teams and play using the Badab War rules (IA9). We end the campaign with a giant Apocalypse game. Very fun.

Since we often end up with odd numbers when we get together to play so cooperative elements often appear. Nothing wrong with having two players work together and having the opponent be "randomly" controlled or something like that. That is easy with tyranids and daemons...swarms of either moving forward towards the nearest enemy or shooting at the nearest enemy. It is your game so have fun. There has to be someone out there somewhere in web land who has already done the leg work to do something like this. Just do a search on cooperative 40k scenarios or some such and you should find all the info you need.

There used to be Kill Team missions back in 4th edition where you would run a few small squads and a defending player would have a bunch of chaff units and a boss unit. It actually was pretty similar to a lot of DoW2 missions, and had mechanics for stealthily sneaking around, sentries and detection, plus special wargear IIRC. It was cool and I hope GW brings it back in a future expansion.

There is a kill team mission in the (somewhat) recent battle missions book. Is that anything at all like the old kill team?

I found an online copy (not sure if it's okay to post), the Battle Missions Kill Team is a 1-on-1 match, similar to 4th ed Kill Team in that each model is its own unit, but it's simpler as it doesn't have sentries and all that. Although it allows you to 'specialize' individual models.

Not at all, unfortunately. You can move every model individually, and three models in your force get a USR, but no two can have the same one. So one guy could get Fleet, one could get Feel No Pain, one could get Relentless, for example. It's still just a kill each other mission generally, and IIRC doesn't even note that you should play on a smaller table or anything. The only reason I can see for the complete removal of that gametype from the rules is so they can sell a supplement of it later on, or publish one in WD. I'd like that a lot, as the Kill Team mission in the Battle Missions book isn't very good.
