Hi,

maybe I don´t get the rules right, but as far as I understood a Hive Tyrant has a Psychic Mastery Level of 1(!). So this means, although he is a MC he is only able to use 1(!) Psychic Power per turn? That´s ridiculous.
The same must then be true for a CSM Demon Prince with MoT or not?
And why does Ahriman just get 3 new Psychic Powers, although he knows 5 in the Codex?

If this all is true I hate the new edition :(

Ehm, as mastery levels basically echo the number of spells you could cast per player turn in the previous edition, they only used to be able to cast one power per turn in the old edition as well, so so change there.

As for swapping powers for the rulebook ones, remember that it's not mandatory if you want to keep your original 5 powers.

Yes that´s true but that he can´t even take a power that costs 2 points annoys me a little bit...

And couldn´t a DP with MoT use 2 powers per turn?

Guess I'm more of a glass half full kinda guy that views them being the same but gaining access to a lot more useful powers. They only gained things in that regard without loosing anything.

And if you want access to the Mastery Level 2 power, there's always the Swarmlord.

A Hive Tyrant could already only use a single power a turn, so nothing has changed.

People seem to be confusing mastery level with the number of powers a model can TAKE, as opposed to the number of powers a model can USE per turn. The rulebook states that if the codex doesn't specify otherwise the psyker's mastery level does equal the number of powers they can take, but that isn't the case for all existing codexes.

The number of powers the model has access to in their codex is the number of powers they can randomly generate from the rulebook as a replacement. The number of powers the model is able to use in a single turn = the psyker's mastery level.

So yes, a Hive Tyrant only has a masterly level of 1, because in his codex he can only cast one power a turn.

Yes, a Daemon Prince can do 1 power per turn, MoT means you can do an extra power so 1+1 I believe = 2.

Except Ahriman specifically can only generate 3, from the FAQ:

Ahriman generates three new powers.

Surely MoT only allows the Demon Prince to TAKE another power but still only use one, doesn't it?

Mastery Level = number of powers you can cast per turn. With MoT that's two.

With Eldar Spirit Stones (check out the Eldrad clarification) that's two; or three for Eldrad.

With Master of Runes, or Epistolary upgrades, that's two.

Number of powers you have is separate.

No, it explicitly states you may cast another power
