I tried figuring this out before posting, but I dont see it in the rules under the Flying Monstrous Creatures. Can a flying monstrous creature fire at Flyers ( when they are flying too ), such as a storm talon, but hit as normal and not needing to hit on 6's?

It doesn't appear as though they have the Skyfire rule at all.

Unless they have a weapon with skyfire unfortunately not. They don't get the skyfire special rule as they are not a "flyer" but are classed specifically as a "flying monstrous creature". Poo I know, imagine how cinematic chaos breath from a Deamon prince against a flyer would be. You can however vector strike flyers, which is pretty cool.

They don't (normally) have Skyfire, so they still snap fire. But that is what Vector Strike is for

I'm curious, what sort of monstrous creatures do you use?

Vector striking is over-rated. It'd drop it for skyfire in a heartbeat.

I was thinking of Lords of Change, flying around the board shooting Bolts of Tzeentch. Blood Thirsters with unholy might vector striking would be the next best thing.

Using a 250 point model to shoot a single S8 shot at BS1?
That's...bold.

Not if it shoots at it's normal ballistic skill. That is why I started this thread, to find out if you can. Not a lot of options for a pure chaos daemon army vs. flyers. Vector strike of course and long shot shooting. Allies with Chaos space marines and use their rumored flyer, that would be the other option. The only other option I can think of, is buying a fortification with a skyfire capable gun.

Yeah, but they do not fire at normal BS because they do not have the special rule SKYFIRE. Flyers can shoot normal BS at FMCs because they have the special rule SKYFIRE. Bloodthirster vs LoC is going to be so much more helpful for taking out flyers. Two upgrades i would give him would be BotBG and Unholy Might. Unholy might makes his profile strength 8, so he can vector strike at S8.

He gets D3+1 auto hits against the targets side armor, and with most flyers their armor is about 11. So odds are that is about 1 pen, maybe another glace. If you roll well it can be up to 4 pen.

Versus

A LoC has one shot at BS1 because of snap shots and he will only hit one out of 6 times. Then he can vector strike, but seeing as his strength is only 6, you would have to roll a 5 or 6 to actually do anything.

Bloodthirster is probably the best unit in Daemons for taking out flyers

Dude, read my post again please. The reason why I made this thread was to find out if FMC's can shoot at flyers with normal ballistic skill. Guess what? I found out they can't, so you can keep your SKYFIRE feedback to yourself. Thanks but no thanks.

Sorry, i did not intend to make those condescending, that is how i usually write special rules. If i was stating that the FMCs have other special rules, they would be capitalized as well. like, the FMCs also have HAMMER OF WRATH as well as FEAR

You can check in my other threads that i have posted in to confirm this

yes they can read the rule p49
"Flying monstrous creatures are quick witted predators, able to track their targets even when moving at high speed. They can therefore, fire up to 2 of there weapons normally."

also it is confirmed in the official gw f&q under the rule book section as they can choose to snap fire or not

Dude. This thread is from 2012. Please refrain from thread necromancy.

Also, RAW, at the time, Flying Monstrous Creatures did NOT have Skyfire. This was only later added through an FAQ.
