Hi there. Just came upon a scenario where as; my opponent took a defence line. I wiped out all the men inside & had a unit inside it. Can I fire/auto-fire his emplacement weapons in this scenario?
I can’t see why not. The rules just say (pg96) “if a building is occupied”, it doesn’t say by friend or foe.
Now, my opponent was screaming bloody murder. He said as he’d paid for it I couldn’t use it. But to me, it seems quite logical that, if I’ve wiped out all the men in/near, the emplacement , it comes under my control. I can’t see anything saying otherwise.

Now, the game we played had an extra twist to it. I was using Tyranids. I’m pretty sure that in the FAQ it says that nid’s can’t use the emplacement guns (which makes sense I guess), but how does this effect auto fire? Surely if my Gaunts have overrun the position, I can choose to auto fire it at a target of my choice. (obviously still the closest though)

Also, pg 105 doesn’t say anything other than ‘one model’. No mention of friend or foe.

Thoughts?

Thanks

I think you're confusing "Emplaced Weapons" (p96) and "Gun Emplacements" (p105). An Aegis Defence Line only has a Gun Emplacement, which does not have the Automated Fire rule.

You're right, though, that anyone can fire the weapon; they just need a unit in base contact with the weapon.

Tyranids are unable to manual fire Emplaced Weapons (FAQ p3), but they can still fire a Gun Emplacement from an Aegis line.

Oh yeah. My bad. I have been using them with autofire. Makes sense that you can use them if you overrun the defence lines though.

Cheers.
