I am starting to work up a Nid list that contains 9 hive guard, however $25 a piece is a bit steep. Anyone have any suggestions for ways to make that happen for less?

If you have aany warriors sitting around you can use them.

I took the warrior bodies and used venom cannons with the big rending claw arms underneath. I used Termagant heads and they look pretty solid. Same profile as the hive guard and most nid players have a ton of warriors they dont use.

Warriors are certainly the obvious choice, but just sticking a big gun onto a standard warrior would look a bit sad. The main issues would be:
- the gun should be easy enough, merge some spare bioweaponry and greenstuff
- the pose - I love the almost quadrapedal look to the standard model, and doing something similar would help it look less like a warrior
- the back armour - somehow extend the standard armour with greenstuff? Or some spare bits from other nid monstrous creatures may be suitable, once merged with greenstuff?
