I would like to apologize in advance because of unknown PC issues I have to post this VIA phone.

A few weeks ago I posted that was looking to trade/sell my ork army. sental replied to my thread with interest towards an army trade for his IG. We spoke at great length about tactics, and painting. He posted pictures, a deal was made, but due to the cost of shipping he had to break up his stuff into two shipments. After the first one was sent I sent my army. I received his first package a few days later, but when I looked through it many things were oop(he only mentioned 3 HWT being out of print), models were badly converted(Never mentioned this. SM heads and arms on Catachan bodies), vehicles were incomplete(missing things from hatches to treads, to weapons. He only ever mentioned a Basilisk needing repair).

When asked if the bits for these would be on the next shipment he said he would gather all the bits he could find and ship them. After I received confirmation that his second package was sent he asked if I was interested in trading a Stompa for his Shadowsword and that he would buy the other Stompa though he wouldn't be able to send me the money or the Shadowsword til August 1st. I agreed to the trade and with it being less than a week I foolishly sent the stompas.

I received his second package and more of the same(Russ tanks with no treads, Valkyries in junk lot condition), and no bits to complete them. I sent him a message to confirm that I had sent the Stompas, and have not heard from him since. I have received no emails, no pms, no Shadowsword, and no money. I have sent him multiple pms to try and resolve this, and still nothing.

I still have all the pms and they are available, but as I said there are a lot of them to sift through and my pc is having a fit.

Moral of the story, no matter how nice someone seems and how things appear ALWAYS use caution when trading online.

Trading always have seemed sketchy to me, to be honest it would be best if both parties could put a deposit somewhere at a 3rd party so that they can justify which party is not doing their part.

That does sound ideal, but I knew the risks involved with online trading(especially with someone with low post count/trade references).

I am pretty sure there is someway to do the third party thing, probably just have to look it up.

well I have only traded once and the trader didn't give me a thumbs up, yeah so I normally just buy/sell things since if the seller screws me over I can just claim a dispute from paypal.

Yeah, hope you get this properly resolved though...

Not meaning to go off topic, but I have thought about doing something like becoming a trading halfway point... Just have to do things like verify your credibility and make it so people could always track down the "halfway" guy. But heck once verified the guy could just wait till both sides of the trade come through and then ship them out the next day. Would be a little more hassle for people to have to deal with and more expensive (probably a little fee from the middle man and then the shipping from there out).

Anyhow, hope you get things sorted out!

How they do it is that both side deposits a large amount of money normally worth more than what you are delivering so that you can cover the cost of one side.

So if you give the approval such as item received then his side of the money would be released back to him. But if yours don't show up or have any problems then you can talk to the third part and if you have a valid claim they would give you their proportion of the money back...

This is the exact reason why you should always request pictures, unless you know you can trust this person. Also by checking their trade rep you can also get a good idea about the person. I mean, once they've done @10 or so trades, chances are real good you can trust them (get pics anyways).

I mail a lot of packages, I've never had to break up an army to keep shipping down, in fact, I would argue that it would raise your shipping costs. Next time suggest the person go out and just get a bigger box.

PM sent about those IG...

He did post pictures of his stuff, which are still up in his gallery. They aren't very good pictures at that, but what I was really looking for was proof that he actually had the models he said he did.

Its called escrow and there are plently of companies out there that offer escrow services

Just a little extra info I found yesterday, so I found him on Facebook and he has been on the past 2 weeks so he does have internet. I looked in his pictures and there's the Shadowsword he was suppose to send me along with pics of my Stompa being used in a game. So he got my Stompas just didn't send anything out so that rules out post office mix up.
