After resolving to need more tactical marines for my Angels Infernus chapter I found my old method of scout/marine kitbash to be prohibitively expensive to so on a larger scale basis. With this in mind I felt I needed something else to make my tactical marines unique while being more cost effective.

With this in mind I have been converting my own crested helmets for my tactical marines, the first 5 helmets are now done in my test scheme/conversion and I'd love to know what people think.

Thanks guys

I think they look great. I especially like the one on the left (of the photo), with the leaves on the helmet.

I'd love to see the models to see how they fall in with the models.

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

These are pretty good. I like how crisp your small details are (forehead symbols, crest shading).

I hate crested helmets of any kind (Not just 40K) however they are in good proportion, and the paint work is excellent.

Should be a interesting looking army when finished.

Great conversions. Mind sharing how you built the crests?

Cheers guys, I wanted something a little unique and the crests just seems to fit the role.

As to how they're made I'm not the best (or best resourced) modeller in the world, the front and back plate is a sliver of resin off of a lump that came with my contemptor dread, cut down to the right size. The crest in the middle is GS sculpted with my craft knife. Too some trial and error but it came together in the end.

Very nice work. I'm not a fan of crests myself either, but they are well done.

Mold it, cast it, mass produce for the army

Good luck

If I was in any way experienced in casting I'd try this way of replicating just the crests for my army. However I have no experience in the skills, costs and legalities of casting and as such my GS will be seeing more service as the legion of crests expands.

Just as a follow up I got ahold of a new box of tactical marines. Here's a sample of the sergeant with the new crested heads:

Now that is gorgeous. Gotta say again, you nailed the scale down perfectly.

With this color scheme, it pops very nicely, but it's also not obnoxious. Well done.

Those marines look badass! Its not quite a roman plume, it has its own distinct look and shape.....really like it and it goes well with the GK (?) marines.....very nice

Good work! they look really good, makes them stand out without being too ostentatious, and your gs work is pretty good on them as well, they don't look scratch built! looking forward to more :-)

Cheers guys, they looks as good as I had hoped when on the mini. I'll be working through the rest of the squad as swoon as I pickup some more glue (previous one exploded over desk :( ). I seem to have avoided my previous mistake of making the crest too low and having it conflict with the backpack when fitted!
