Hi guys

I got half way through building my battlewagon before I had a break from the game in preparation for 6th ed. I havn't read the new rules yet as waiting for the starter set.

My question is what is the best set up for a battlewagon now taking into account rule changes?

I was all set on modeling it with a death rolla and a couple of magnetised big shootas and leaving it open topped. Have rule changes now made this a poor build. My gaming group is not strict on wysiwyg but still I like tanks to be as close to my usual setup as possible.

Any suggestions for best ways to use battlewagons are welcome, particularly would be interested to know if open topped vehicles can still be assaulted out of?

Thanks

I think open topped and Deff Rolla is pretty good, then again it comes down to what you actually want in them as well.

Burna Wagons? Loota Wagons? Shoota Wagon? I guess?

I am planning on using them as transporters for either meganobz, burnas or boyz.

Can you still assault out of open topped?

What's the thinking behind putting lootas in?

Thx

I am not 100% sure but I think you can if it is open topped...

I know you have to have slow and purposeful in order to make them shoot when moving but I rather put burnas in a battlewagon I guess

All open topped vehicles are Assault Vehicles, meaning you can assault out of them.

No, Lootas can shoot out of a vehicle that's moved. They'll just fire snap shots (only hit on 6) which considering they hit on 5+ normally isn't such a terrible penalty.

When you disembark now you place each model next to a hatch/ramp and then move it up to 6" (repeat for each member).

So you can roll up 6" (7" with red paint job) with batlewagon effectively deploy an additonal 6" and then assault 2d6".

Keep it open topped as you can shoot out with everyone as well.

Im getting ready to go to a grand tourney here shortly and im trying out a deff rolla/grabbin klaw combination with 1 big shoota just for a weapon destroyed result. Deff rolla is good for pretty much anything that isnt a flier which is where the grabbin klaw comes into play.

they make great loota wagons, your meks can now repair hull points and your bw has 4 hull points and av14 up front. i give mine deff rollas as a threat so others don't try to get to close to it, grot riggers, 2 big shootas, a kannon and plates

then i just have 12 lootas with 3 meks so i can ehal up to 4 hull points a turn. you only roll on damage chart for penetrating shots so people have to get side armor or try to penetrate av14... even then you can jump out with the lootas if they do stun, keep the meks in b2b and repair and have lootas snap fire on your turn hitting on 6's... lootas really destroy fliers

same applies to burna boyz, same build 12 bunaz 3 meks, in the same setup, you can rush toward hitting with your big shootaz and kannon on 6's, then drop 12 templates

i still prefer meganobz in trukks though its a good use f points and you can hid behind a wagon if you are not going first then zip out go flat out and even if they kill the trukk manz have 2+ so no huge deal . don't forget to buy them their kombi skorchas, d3 str 5 if charged, or a way to week through number in things like IG blogs less overwatch that way

All of the battlewagon wargear (Deff rolla, ram, turrets, those gunners with big shootaz in the back, the roof for the passenger compartment) can be left unglued and can be exchanged however you see fit without the danger of it falling appart during a game. The the grabbin klaw, the lobba and the cupola with the pintle-mounted big shoota need some counter.weights (I used excess sprue for this), but will then hold in place without glue, too. Finally, put the grot rigger on a base and you'll have a completely modular battlewagon, no matter what new rules come your way.

The only thing that needs magnetizing would be the big gunz turret, but luckily both the Zzap-gun and the killkannon are terrible, so I personally didn't bother.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

The deff roller has be nerfed as you can not ram and then assault with the occupants. I am afraid.

Also low cover saves is the other major nerf, otherwise business as usual.

Kff to keep them alive.
If you must put lootas in a battlewagon try a mek with mega armour, as this makes them move and shoot at their bs2 rather than bs1. Though I do not think lootas need this personally.

Battlewagons are now pretty good gun wagons, they can shoot a lot. The only issue is that are more likely to die so be careful how many points you invest in them.

Burnas in a battlewagons is still pretty funny.
Ork boyz in a battlewagon also works really well.
kff is still needed, though it is not as good due to changes to cover.
You still something else to knock out mech, which is something battlewagon lists tend to forget.
