My group has been talking (and today tried out) alternatives to the usual rolling for how much you need to kill. Namely, missions. At the minute we have an Attack/Defense scenario involving VIP escort (what we tried today, more on that in a second) and we hope to get either 3 or 6 different missions to roll off for at the start. Our reasoning being its A) something a bit different, and B) well.. lets be fair, the kill missions CAN be more than a tad unbalanced depending on the other guys fleet.
The VIP mission we came up with involves the defender having 3 VIP ships, dont count towards his points or force, but lack main guns (
AA,
AP and
CC as normal). Getting them half way across the board nets 1 point per ship, getting them off the far side nets another point per ship. The attack gets 1 point for each ship sunk, or 2 for prizing it (were assuming the attacks raiding the convoy for supplies, or hostages or something).
We tried it today, and it went fairly well. EotBS (me) vs FSA. FSA had to think a bit more about his unit placement, keeping his gunships close to the VIPs and his other heavier stuff. As for me, i was a LOT more focused to boarding. EotBS won with 5 points to 0 (2 prized and 1 sunk behind the halfway line) but i lost about half my fleet, other than attacks of opportunity, my guns were focused at what was between me and the VIPs. So we think the system works, however were going to agree on a few limitation rules. Namely only the
TWs you get with carriers, no frees. Also, the defender limited to 1 large capital (were assuming convoy escort isnt worth dedicating more to if their not expecting a major attack) where as the attacker being limited to 1 unit of smalls (too light on their own supplies to delve too deep into enemy territory maybe?)
Wondered if i could get some opinions, both on the idea itself and on the current proposed limitations. Also, for todays game we just used british cruisers as our VIPs, though were considering either using 1 of the more redundant unit types from each force *cough*nakatsu*cough* as a permanently designated "supply ship" or whatever, or (/until) Spartan releases some generic civilian craft for
DW (we would use ships from a faction no one plays, but our group had perfect number of people to cover each faction). So any thoughts on this too?
Thanks all in advance
And also seems their finally put alliance forces up in their store over at spartan games

even if it is only land forces
