I have been kicking around a 500 point all comers list for a 500 point escalation league and im at a crossroads on what would be the best all around army. The thing that is really posing the biggest issue is that one or maybe more of my opponents plan on including a Leman russ in their lists. However i will also be facing orks, Eldar and Imperial Guard with large amounts of infantry units that may overwhelm standard heavy weapons team. 14 armor is rough at this point value but here is what i came up with...

Rune Priest......100
Terminator Armor....20
Living lightening

Land Speeder.....50
Multi-melta........10

Land Speeder.....50
Multi-melta........10

Grey Hunters x5 ...... 75
Flamer

Grey Hunters x5 ...... 75
Flamer

Drop pod...........35

Long Fangs x3 ....54
2x Missile Launcher ....20

Plan is to Deep strike the Rune priest with a 5 man GH squad ( drop pod assault) and Deep strike the 2 speeders to drop behind vehicles or heavily armored enemies and quickly destroy them. The Rune Priest squad, i figured, could either lay waste to lightly armored infantry with Living Lightning and bolter fire, or charge smaller squads of other marines and the like to get my rune priest into HtH. The long fangs can provide both anti armor or frag support fire to wherever is lacking and the other unit can move to objectives while laying down bolter cover fire. Thoughts?

Fury deliver me.

if i remember correctly terminator armoured models can't use drop pods, and its better at this point level to spend it on your greyhunters or on rune armour

also you need to remove the cost of the upgrades, its illegal

I would ditch one speeder and the terminator armor on the RP to get 3 more long fangs and 2 ML's.

Terminators absolutely CAN use drop pods - It's Rhino's and Razorbacks that they can't use.

If someone fields a Leman Russ at 500... Geez ok try this:

Runepriest 100

Take Hurricane and Lightening . Hurricane will tar pit infantry units in Difficult terrain to slow them down.

Speeder w multi melta 60

5 Grey Hunters w/ Mark, melta, standard 105

5 Grey Hunters w/ standard, melta 90

Your Long Fang unit at 65 points 2 missiles (taking the Squad Leader allows you to shoot missiles at 2 different targets too)

Put them in a Lazorback at 75 keep you priest here for protection. Or just take the Lazorback Twin linked ...

This gives you 6 major anti tank weapons: the lascannon, 2 melta guns, and the multi melta, and the 2 missiles...

The Russ can only shoot at one....

Only issue here is that there isnt much in terms of Assault or Infantry stability. This is definitely a very strong Tank hunting list though...and that Russ should be gone by Turn 1

To stop large infantry units with this army, use Murderous Hurricane on one of them and shoot your missiles last...that way you can target infantry with Frag missiles if necessary for blasts.

The lazorback will die right away and it's single S9 shot isn't a reliable AV14 killer. It's not worth it at this point level IMO. You're better off with another speeder just to make sure the Russ dies. But the problem with the speeders is that once they've killed the big tank, they're basically useless.

Another idea would be to take a squad of 10 GH's with 2 meltaguns in a drop pod. Then you could pod in behind the russ and vaporize it's rear armor. In addition, the 10 GH's are going to be a tough nut for your opponents to crack.

Spoiler:

Wolf Priest- 100

10 x GH's + 2 meltaguns, MotW, Drop Pod - 205

5 GH's + meltagun 80

6 LF's + 5 HB's 115

Since the HB's are all AP4, they are going to punch through the armor of all troops from Ork, Eldar and IG lists. Furthermore, it you mingle the 6 Long fangs with the 5 Grey Hunters, they'll both be really tough to assault because the heavy bolters can overwatch wtih 15 strength 5 AP4 shots. They can also move a full 6" and fire snap shots. Put the Wolf Priest with them and give them "Preferred Enemy" toward Infantry and you'll also get to re-roll 1's to Hit and 1's to wound!

So this way you can deal with big tanks on turn 1 with your Drop Pod and then mow down infantry with your heavy bolters.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I just won with this list in the first game i played. But the advice and tactics have made me realize a few things i can improve. Im going to use murderous hurricane because i had JoWW before. This was slowed at this point level. I currently do split fire with my fangs and they worked out very well. Also, the term armor has proven to be pretty effective for handling marine troops and other HQ models. Im going to give the 10 man melta GH unit a try next game and ill let you know how it goes.
