Stationed in Okinawa right now, hoping to find a little gaming store or group of players. Anyone heard anything? Anyone know of any GW shops in Kin City?
Anything? Anyone? Rumors?

Kadena has a gaming club. Well, atleast they did two years ago. I'm not sure where you could find info on it but I believe they had a website aswell.

As of Dec 2011/Jan 2012 when I PCS'd off the island, the Wargamming club was still meeting Saturday morning's at the Schilling Center near the exchange on Kadena.
I walked in a few times over the years while I was there just to look aroung because all my 40k stuff was in storage. I had a wife (now ex-wife) who wasn't keen on my gaming habits anyway. I saw mostly 40k, a little WHFB, and once or twice caught some games that I didn't recognize.
I never saw a shop out in town that sold any Warhammer 40k. All the model shops on Okinawa I saw were for RC type models which the Okinawan's love.
Best bet for purchases are online and have them shipped. and you best bet for finding a group/club is on Saturday's at the Schilling Center.
Hope that helps.
EDIT...
I just remembered they have a banner hanging outside above the back door (movie theater side of the Schilling Center) with the times. Also if you went inside they probably have more information too.

Hey thanks, I'll check it out! I'm up in Camp Hansen, not sure if the trip is feasible early in the morning. The bus only goes to Foster, then have to take a honcho up to Kadena.
Kinda funny story, by flatmate walked in while I was painting some Space Wolves, got all excited about it and told me the guy across the hall is a big 40k'er! Haven't been able to play any yet, still to busy with shopwork, but when things calm down going to get together and hopefully start or join a club!
Who knew Marines were such nerds?

I have just started 40K since I have lived here on Oki.
The Schilling center on Kedina does do Wargamming (mostly 40k) every Saturday. They have a Facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tabletop-Wargaming-Group-TTWG-Okinawa/196639113715179. They were closed in Oct due to Schilling being booked. Since I assume your a Marine without a car, Schilling is the building right across from the theater next to the Commissary/PX on Kedina.
Marines are big dorks especially out here in Oki where its hard to go out. I know of at least 2 people on Hansen right now who play.
There is a shop in Naha that sells Warhammer, unfortunately he sells in Yen so its pricy. Switch the Games work shop web site to "Japan" for prices. I personally use Ebay a lot. Just keep in mind 2 things. Shipping to FPO/ AP does not cost the sender any more than shipping to California. 2nd if you don't want to wait for 6-10 weeks for your item pay for Priority shipping. The military postal system does not see a difference between first class and standard, some times they will take 2 weeks some time 75 day and some times they just strait lose the items. Priority never takes longer than a week. I've had stuff show up in 4 days.
I buy all the rest of my supplies closer to home. The Craft/hobby shop on Kedina (across from the PX) sells acrylic paint and brushes and glue. There is a hobby shop 2 store fronts on the right past the end of gate 2 street. He's a Gundam store so he sells paint, brushes, green stuff (its a gray brick), shaping tools, stands ect. The last place is a store called Daiso. Its located in the same parking lot as the CoCos down by exit 6 (down 329 from you). Its a 100 yen style store. They sell some great glue (the blue cylindar), glue disbonder, exact-o knives, and stuff like that.
If anyone has any more questions go ahead and hit me up.

It's not that Marines are nerds, but that war gaming appeals to us and those in the military in general. I've read blogs about guys playing the game in their FOBs using rocks and crushed water bottles, etc as proxy models.
Granted I listen to NPR and gamer podcasts while I run, so .... Perhaps we are nerds too....
