Lost in the Warp....

Hey dakka, I am struggling to find the best allies for space wolves, if they even need allies So what would you consider to be the top 4, best allies for space wolves; what style of wolves would go best with your said allies. So do you think other top (like necrons, guard, grey knights) armies combined would help space wolves in a tournament scene ?

Tau for some mega gunline synergy with long fang spam.

Then, grey hunters and TWC for countercharging.

Coteaz + plasma servitors and Psyrifledreads synergize nicely with Long Fang Spam to create a disgusting gunline.

There's no reason to take anything except more Space Wolves.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

Imperial Guard are easily #1. You can get some cheap objective campers and Vendettas for under 500pts. After Guard, the other choices are kind of meh. I'd consider Blood Angels, Grey Knights, Tau and Necrons, but none of those are particularly "awesome" options.

yes one of my other thoughts was just getting wraiths and a destroyer lord and having that run around and kill stuff

I'd have to go with IG, hands down. The other Marine chapters don't add anything you need other than possibly taking Blood Angels to give you high mobility scoring. IG give you buckets of cheap scoring units that can still benefit from the large amount of Divination you can throw around. Guard also gives you cheap, reliable Close Air in the Vendetta, and for some real comedy, throw a Wolf Priest in with an Al'Raheem platoon to ensure that they arrive on the side you want.

GKs, as Allies of Convenience, are subject to having your Runic Weapons shut down their psychic abilities and don't bring anything to the table that you can't get with either bricks of Wolf Guard Terminators or with platoons of IG.

Eldar will just screw you up with Runes of Warding, though I guess an Autarch on a jetbike with 3 Guardian jetbikes is some cheap, mobile scoring. Necrons and Orks are more trouble than they're worth.

I am leaning towards IG as well, now what would you suggest within the IG attachment, a platoon but with what, is going mech needed ?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I have 455 to 480 points in my list so any thoughts of what to bring in that attachment .

Lost in the Warp....

I was going with Some Rune priests, 3 wolf guard with power fist/combi melta, 3 squads of 7 grey hunters with melta, wolf standard and mark of wulfen in a rhino. and then long fangs to top it off

130 points for the obligatory Vendetta
100 points for a CCS with lascannon and 2 plasmaguns
75 for a Heavy Weapon Team with 3 autocannons
70 for a Platoon Command squad with 4 meltaguns
120 for 2 Infantry Squads with autocannons.

That comes to 495, gives you 3 backfield scoring units to sit in terrain and lend extra fire to the Long Fangs, a CCS to make the most of their fire, a Vendetta for flyer defense and a PCS to ride in the gunship. If you're worried about killpoints, you can blob the pair of infantry squads together, which makes even better use of the orders from the CCS.

That's where the PCS goes. The Lt and 4 jerks with meltaguns are along for the ride. If you need to slow down and deposit them accurately for late game support of your Grey Hunters, they can do it or in an emergency you can helocast them.

It's a good mix of the stalwarts of what have both been very strong codecies all through 5th, and I'm fairly certain I'll be one of several dozen bringing something similar to NoVa in a few weeks.

True true, I think my wolves can hold their own in fire power the vendetta will be needed, and I do like the idea of the rune priests and divination

Divination is really starting to grow on me, 4 of them are just really good an the other two if on the first roll you can sub for the best primaris power of all the disciplines.

I just don't know how many Rune Priests to run, they are so stinking cheap at 100pts. Do I run 2 an make em Masters of the Runes, if I were to roll the 4+ invuln power it goes on the Demolishers. I would only get 4 rolls, if I went with 3 regular rune priests it would be the same points, but I would get 6 rolls to select but only be able to cast 3 as opposed to 4. 3 Masters of the Runes would be overkill I think. I just love the thought of AV13 an 14 with 4+ invulns.

So far my list contains 2 rune priests, I will have to try that, I believe guard are the strongest because of the fire power they can put out.

This is such a bad way to pick an ally. If you need something then you should know what you are looking for and go searching for that. Rather than what is the 'best'.

The only thing space wolves can not do is shoot down flyers well. IG, BA and ultrasmurfs can bring flyers but a single flying unit will not really help you as the enemy should be able to cope with the threat, then once shot down you are lacking options again.
ADL with quadgun is probably needed anyway.

In some ways a couple of night scythes and a doom scythe isn't a bad idea. They will kill flyers for you and their troops can kill mech easily enough. You will be able to keep them more than 6'' as well, especially at the start of the movement phase.
