Hey all,

My wife is rather upset that with 6th ed. arriving, I have stopped "playing" 40k, and gotten into Malifaux,Hell Dorado, Warmachine, and technically, Infinity. She is upset because I have these hundreds of 40k minis lying around gathering dust.....

So, my question to you guys is: do any of you know of a similarly sized/scaled game to 40k that will allow me to use my guard, marine, etc. 40k armies, without much need to purchase extra gear?

The Battlefield

The Battlefield could definitely be used for your Imperial Guard battles, and it shouldn't be too long before the true sci-fi expansion is out that will allow you to bring in powered armor, jump troopers, and other futuristic goodness. [full disclosure: this is my game ]

Plenty. A search of "Generic Sci-Fi Rulesets" will net you more that you'll ever have time for. The newest kid on the block is Tomorrow's War. If you're on budget, start with the free ones.

I have the rule book, and like the minis, however have not found a "partner" in my area who'd be interested in learning, nor have I been allowed to purchase models by the missus.

Look into Shockforce/Warengine. Its a 28mm game scaled similar to 40k, but simpler & easier allowing for either larger or faster playing games. Its one of my favorite 28mm army scale games.

The absolute best part...creation rules...make your minis play the way you want them to.

I'd second this as well. I've played it and it's a very nice set of rules, though it doesn't handle tanks very well.
You can build your own unit, but for starters, you'll find that the "Megacom" army lists covers your IG rather well.

I'd also suggest Warpath. It currently exists in two forms, the original mass battle version, and a smaller "Skirmish" ruleset (not tried this yet) that is under development. Mauraders will cover Marines with a few tweaks, and Corporation is an IG analogue.

I've played the mass battle version a few times, and really enjoy it. It's very fast playing, though IMHO, it only works realy well with larger armies. For smaller battles, try the "Skirmish" ruleset or WarEngine.

Other rulesets worth checking out include:
FUBAR (free rules)
In The Emperor's Name (Free also.) Battles for Warbands in the 40k universe Great warband rosters and scenarios included.
Tomorrow's War: (From Osprey) Gritty realistic rules for future combat. Very different from 40k. Handles vehicles well, but tops out at about 30 figs and a couple vehicles per side.
