My Forge World DKOK troops have finally arrived! Need color scheme ideas! I don't want to do the typical black and I don't want to copy anyones work!

Paint them in French ww1 colors. So a blueish scheme

Khaki would also be good, and real-world accurate, but only if you weren't planning on ultra-muddy bases as the colours would blend in too much.

Google WWI / WWII combat uniform and look at the results.

Do something exotic like lime green or yellow if you want them to look unique. I be no one else has done a Krieg army like that.

In all seriousness, a light/grey blue scheme like the french field uniforms mentioned by kenshin would look pretty good.

Then pick random, gaudy colors and start painting, because the sensible schemes are all taken.

I'm only mostly kidding - the DKoK, more than any other army, have distinct, real-world historical influence that lends itself to historically established (or, at least, plausible) color schemes. If you want them to look good, concern yourself more with what colors (contextualized, if you have any fluff for them - e.g. winter campaign) work than what colors haven't been used, yet. You're not copying some painter's homebrew Space Marine chapter scheme, here; when the whole concept of the army is distinctly derivative, you're all simply nodding towards a common source.

Liking the light gray/blue idea! Was considering that or a dough boy/ German hybrid. All my armor is dark charcoal almost black, so I don't want to lose the men against that backdrop.

@ oadie, that actually helps a lot, I know I need to go with works for me personally considering I'm creating a whole new unit of my own. I was just conserned that what I decided would be way off the mark!

Krieg! What a hole...

Light grey and dark grey, close to black, is awesome, that's how I painted my Korpsmen.
