Since 6th edition now allows allies, I've casting about for a better way to use my Swift Claw and Sky Claw models - but still remain within theme for my army.
The idea was to come up with a custom space marines chapter similar to Space Wolves, but using one of the other codecies.

I looked at regular marines first, but their assault marines are still fast attack and not much better than Skyclaws, and the required HQ and Troops are lame and not useful. This would be a bigger waste of points than just using them as Skyclaws to begin with.
Bike units might be OK, though.

Then I looked at Blood Angels and found much more interesting options.

There's obvious synergy in the themes - Blood Angels have vampire-based fluff, and it's not much of a stretch at all to turn that into a Were-Wolf style. It even gave me an obvious Chapter name: Lycanthropes.... but there are many other ways to play with the base word "Lycan", so I'm not done thinking there.

What really got my attention was Death Company. These guys sound just like a whole squad with Mark of the Wulfen, have some pretty cool abilities, can *all* have special melee weapons if I wish, can also have jump packs, and most importantly - they fulfiil the required Troops spot of an ally. I could also include a Reclusiarch to lead them as the compulsary allied HQ selection.
Only problem is they're *really* expensive....

The other option i guess is that regular Blood Angels jump pack assault squads actually count as troops, and dont have the gimp statline of Blood Claws, but they don't have much in the way of melee weapon options.

Other than Troops choices...
Assault terminators are 40 / 45 respecitevly for Lightning Claws / TH & SS... instead of 48 / 63.... and i could teleport them into battle or buy them a Stormraven as the Heavy Support option.
For that I'd lost Counter Attack and the option to buy combi-weapons or a CML.

Any thoughts?

Not sure what you are looking for but any space wolves list that includes bikers or jump packs may as well take vanilla scoring bikers or BA scoring jump packs as allies.

Again I find myself saying that jump-pack Death Company are well worth the points. Don't fall to the temptation of overarming them though, that WOULD be a waste. Take a power axe or fist (or both) for hard targets, and let their many many attacks do the rest of the work. If you do run them, stick a Reclusiarch (sorry, "psuedo Wolf Priest") with them as your required allied HQ slot.

And yes, BA bikers are much better than Swiftclaws - you'll want to keep them close to the Death Company so they can support each other. In particular their T5 along with their new and improved Jink saves make them tough to take out, so try and make them appear as a threat as much as you can. If you can afford it, try and squeeze in a Priest on a Bike to go with them, and they'll be even more survivable still - thanks to the increased Toughness they'll get FNP against everything except S10 and force weapons.
