Some wierd scenario just happened the other night.

I had a gun emplacement with a model in base contact and my enemy went and got a rhino right next to it in B2B essentially with the hull touching it.

So now we have 2 models in base to base with the turret essentially. He swung the quad gun around and actually shot the unit with one member holding the gun and managed to make them run with a bad morale roll by me which I thought was just plain sillyness though it seems to be within RAW.

Just wanted to know if we played this right.

#1 vehicle touching the emplacement can shoot it? RAW just says model, I don't see where it has to be infantry apparently

#2 if two models are touching the gun, nothing other than LOS issues will prevent you from shooting the gun at the other guy?

(I did not shoot the quad gun in his movement phase as he had nothing arriving from reserves)

and #3 - It seems like fliers would be the only things that can't shoot the gun I'm guessing? How about if it's in hover mode and is now a skimmer and the base can be used? or still just ignore the base?

1) A vehicle is a model
2) Indeed, you are not "locked" so only LOS would prevent it
3) You dont ignore the base when it can be used instead of the hull

Think of it as interacting with the guns machine spirit, overriding it to fire via contact electoos

cool so we did do that correctly. So the fliers can "steal" quad guns too then?

When hovering, yes.

I don't have the rule book in front of me, but some problems in my head that come up:

1. Does gun emplacements allow you to overide the rule that you need to be 1" away from other models? I am assuming that since no one is "manning" the gun, it is not considered an enemy model? But as I reread this, it sounds like you had someone manning the gun. Would this not cause the emplacement to count as one of your models?

2. If the rhino moved and made b2b contact, would this not be considered a ram?
2a. If it is indeed a ram, then the rhino would not be allowed to shoot anything in the following shooting phase, would it not?

1) No, because it is battlefield debris - it is terrain. It isnt "your" model at that point

2) No, as terrain is not a vehicle so you cannot ram it

So, let me get this straight.

I have an ADL with a quad gun.
I am manning it with an hq unit, say a chaos sorceror.
You come up with another unit (infantry or vehicle) and get in b2b with the quad gun from the other side.
You are saying you can now shoot it in your shooting phase?

Yes. I'd suggest surrounding the gun.
