I'm new to 40k, but i had some experience with Lord of the rings tabletop game. I played some games with my dad, but he hardly had the time for it. We still have to assemble like 200 miniatures. But i don't think that will ever happen.

I recently started with some tyranid models. Iv'e got a mawloc and 10 hormagauts, so I won't be playing any games soon.
I already painted the mawloc, only need to put some details on his husk/claws. The hormgaunts are nearly done aswell, just need to paint their skin and add details.

Does anyone know a decent army setup for tyranids so i can focus on buying and painting an army to play with ?

Check out the tactics and army list forums. Look for tyranids topics and see what sounds good to you. One of the big lists right now is "Nidzilla" which is taking as many big bugs as possible.
