Hopefully within the next couple months I will be starting a Blood angels army, I am basing it around assault squads but i need 40 effing troop models lol....
so i would PREFER to buy tactical squads as i get more models cheaper, the downside to this is i heard they are somewhat limited on sprue bits that I would like to use.
my main bits needed... so far before i polish up the list... not 10000% percent sure how i want to run them (i have a good idea) are: melta guns and lightening claws... i need a few.... of each... lol.
to be precise..... 6 claws and 6 melta guns...2 power weapons of other choices either swords axes or fists... I do not need jump packs, all this diversion aside...

can anyone tell me what bits you get in the tactical box and the assault box?

You can always get the bits from a bits site if you're having trouble getting them otherwise...

You also could just buy all the kits you need, and then re-sell everything you dont use.

the thing is is if i can save ... 78$ by having to buy 4 tactical boxes rather than 8 assault boxes... i mean even selling what i don't need there's like NO way i can make that $ difference up.
this is also assuming i buy strictly from GW.... ebay offers an even LARGER discount saving me upwards of 110-120 AFTER shipping. JUST for my troops

Part of this is im building a BA list to match up to my 3k nids list... so I need 3k in BA. all sorts of savings will be dramatically helpful lol.

Check out The War Store. They have a fairly extensive bits assortment. It's not cheap, but you can pretty much buy exactly what you need. Also, you can see exactly what comes in each of the kits with decent close ups of the bits. That's what I was looking at doing for my custom army of robed marines, but at the moment money is tight so another army will have to wait.

Other than that, you can flip through the Swap Shop here on dakka and look to see if anyone is looking to sell or trade what you need.

Since it seems money is tight go with the warstore or ebay. I would suggest getting the right troops, it might be more up front but by the time you buy tactical squads and convert you might just spend more money. Also check out mantic games, they are coming out with a new power armor looking troops that could be used for SM.

Well it would mean getting a lot of bolt pistols and cccw's which could be tricky

I myself find this database incredibly useful especially when it comes to buying individual bitz.
And since they are photographs of the actual sprues you can do a rough size comparison on your bitz.

The catch to all this is that the database remains slightly incomplete.

Also, if you need maximum lightning claws, look to the PA SW box and file off the wolfy bits. Not too bad to do. Also, the black Templar upgrade box has 2 melta guns in it-so lots of BT players can probably swing a couple your way cheaper than regular melta guns. Only difference is a tiny cross and purity seal. Hope it helps.
