definitely like list A more.

I'd drop the assault bikes though, so you can get your priest a power weapon, as well as your other sergeant. Then use whatever left over points you have to fill out the devastators more. You don't really need multimelta attack bikes at 1k points... how many land raiders is he gonna have!

True... I could possibly run them as Heavy Bolters... 3 of them.... hmmmm...

Just given the local meta's habit of having high Initiative characters abound I am very skeptics about the mileage I will get out of PWs on ICs and Sarges (due to challenges)

Well, consider giving your sarges thunder hammers + storm shields.

The enemy will think twice about challenging you, if you can answer that challenge with a guy who has a very good chance of surviving, then instant killing your hero

This is the list I take to a 1000 Point game when if I want to use my angels.

130 Reculsiarch

230 Death Companyx9 w/Power Fistx2

140 Death Company Dreadnought w/Blood Talons and Magna Grapple

140 BAAL Predator w/ Heavy Bolters

155 Vindicator w/ Siege Shield

200 Stormraven Gunship w/Lascannons and Multimeltas

Small, simple, and not one scoring unit but will beat them into submission. Are you able to field something like that?

2400 points Tyranids
4800 points Blood Angels

Your sarcasm will not affect me, your serious will.

Horst I think we run on different design considerations when we make our list, both are valid but we have our own style.

I like units that require minimum points to get the job done, keep em cheap, so if I loose them it isnt that huge of a blow to me. You like making units that can beat face, and beat it some more.

Also, big aspect of my army. No tanks... nadda... maybe Stormravens in time, but right now no tanks, no armor... save the 6 dreads I got on my shelf.

heh

You could always go with chain sword + stormshield + melta bomb sarges, to accept challenges and just stall their characters, while your squad + IC eats the rest of them. Would be a pretty good way to take out monstrous creatures as well, because you could just challenge it and make it deal with your sarge, instead of swiping away entire squads.

edit - and of course, its cheaper and more expendable that way.

Stormsheild seems like a legit tactic actually, most of the time you see either pure duelists or sacrificial sargs....

However, at this second I am considering the potential use of 3 HB attack bikes at this point level... would be unexpected and would have a 48" threat range to softer targets.

Definitely A or B. B intrigues me more, but A is more of a "sure thing". I've not run an attack bike before, but maybe consider a speeder outflanking?

*see above, no armor in my possession. Speeders and Attack bikes are in a very very very rough way equal to each other for there threat range and purpose.

Bikes are better now, especially that they don't die to krak missiles in one shot anymore.

3x HB bikes is alright, but don't over-estimate what they can do. They put out 9 heavy bolter shots... 6 hit, maybe 4 wound (if firing at marines) and maybe 1 dead enemy marine.

Its a lot of points, and would be decent support (especially with a lucky streak of rolls!) but overall won't do too much damage for you.

As you said your worried about challenges, consider putting the librarian on a bike instead of a jump pack, and sticking him with this attack bike squad maybe? I'm just spitballin here, but he wouldn't be at risk for challenges, and most of the librarians' awesome powers will effect friendly units within like a 12" range. You could definitely keep up with the assault marines on the bikers. Plus, its a cool modeling opportunity.

As a future project a Assualt squad + Biker list is definitely in the works, but right now I have 4 attack bikes (won them in a prior tourney).

I wont over-estimate 9 HB shots and 3-6 Bolter shots, I would view it as a softening tool for my RAS squads. With that in mind I would keep them close/ahead of the librarian turn 1-2 so he cast the Divination power that lets them reroll to hit. Against MEQ I dont expect it to do alot, but there is a good deal of Tau/Eldar in the meta and they are not as soft.

I am going to weigh the options, A) being the 3 Attack bikes to run in front (kinda like a mini sheild) vs. Tooling out the existing 2 RAS and 2 Devestator squads.

+1

I like the idea of the bikes, but so far in my experience they haven't done as well as I hope. I have been upgrading my RAS & Dev's instead. Although I run my Dev's a little different, either all MLs or All HBs (Swapping out for the different situations). I have also dropped PFs for the swords on my sargs with mb.

Can I suggest an ADL with quadgun to deal with flyers. Also cover for scouts and dev. squads is nice.

I think I prefer the first list as it has more scoring models, if not units.

I went with List A, except the PW sarg found points for a stormsheild instead and he was my challange monkey for my HQ squad.

Went 2-1 in the tourney, 2 Major victories and 1 major loss by there scoring.

How'd he work out as a challenge monkey?

Its a cool idea, I've wanted to try it, but haven't yet.

I must say challenges have really caused me to rethink my sargs. I have pretty much dropped all my PFs for just meltabombs and power swords.

heh... my main combat squads are death company (at least for every game I've played in 6th so far) so no sarges for me! You can challenge all you want, i don't care.
