Good morning/evening Dakkadakka,

As the title implies, what are people's thoughts on making a homebrew chapter of marines and using different codexes for them? I'm not saying mixing them in one game (unless you take allies of course) but I mean using a different codex for different day.

Thats what I plan on doing. Of course I will use the corresponding models to each codex or convert them adequately, but I keep the same color scheme for the most part.

I find it kina fun. I have a friend who has a 15k point Storm Wardens army but some of his units are BA,vanilla,SW or BT. I also occasionally use the BT codex for my CF marines as they have some shooty goodies we don't. Also, I had a project of making a custom chapter similar to the pre heresy world eaters that would be a counts as BA. I would magnetize some wargear in order to make them usable for the CSM codex too.

I'd say that as long as you make it clear what codex you are using beforehand, and that all of your models are WYSIWYG (or otherwise identified in casual only games), it should be fine. My plan for my marine army (when I ever get around to collecting it), is to make my chapter a DA successor that uses both DA tactics (Ravenwing) and codex tactics (when I want troops other than termies).
