So if Romney wins will he take the oath of office with his hand on the Book of Mormon? First President ever not to take the oath of office with a bible (perhaps a few of the righteous earlier atheistic founding fathers didn't--I'm not sure)?

They still class themselves as Christians, I'm sure the mad fether would use a bible just to stop a gak storm.

feth me, he's a politician! He would swear on a gay porn mag if it meant he would get less gak.. so obviously he wouldn't use the book of Mormon anyway!

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Looks like Teddy didn't use a bible, nor did John Quincy Addams.

You may personally not, but I'm pretty certain a very large amount of people will care, and I see no reason to stop/dismiss discussion of it.

So is the Koran and many other books, it would still cause a *edit* of extreme magnitudes with a small but extremely vocal minority of hard right Christians, and a minor one with conservatives.

Found a word the filter doesn't know!

If I was to swear an oath of office on a book other than the bible, I think it would have to be The Hitchhikers Guide.

What did Romney use to swear in as Governor?

He didn't, by the way.

I hope he insist on the "Book of Mormons". Wonder how many people will forget the "Freedom of Religion" bit and scream bloody murder.

Many people forget about freedom of religion unless they think THEY are the ones being oppressed.

Nah, it'll be the bible. But if he promised to swear on Darwin I'd vote for him.

Maybe.

Probably not.

I'd swear on my dvd box set of Gargoyles.

Then I'd hire Keith David as my presidential narrator.

If's he's religious, he should use whatever book of worship has the most meaning to that religion. I don't see why people who would vote for him would have an issue with this, surely they know he's a Mormon by now.

I just looked it up. He used the same Bible his father used when being sworn in as Governor. Which is pretty cool, but at the same time totally boring compared to the question asked in the OP, which really would have been something.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

I have a feeling that many people will be voting against Obama, not for Romney. It's a subtle distinction.

Well, I think they'd at least have to be sewn at one end to count as a book. So they wouldn't really be a "stack".

Why not have him swear on the bill of rights or the constitution? I'd rather not have him use the Bible or any religious book.

Mormons still believe in the Bible, so he will use the Bible. They believe the Book of Mormon is a companion book to the Bible, not a replacement for it. They still teach out of the Bible in their churches.

"Khorne is a noble warrior who respects strength and bravery, who takes no joy in destroying the weak, and considers the helpless unworthy of his wrath. It is said that fate will spare any brave warrior who calls upon Khorne's name and pledges his soul to the blood god. It is also said that Khorne's daemons will hunt down and destroy any warrior who betrays his honour by killing a helpless innocent or murdering in cold blood..."
