Right now I am a chaos player, been for a little while and really enjoy them but am thinking about starting a standard vanilla marine army, my question to you all it, will both these armies play the same or will they play different?

Well that all depends, do you play a regular marine heavy chaos force? Or do you use units like possessed?
Unfortunately, they will play mostly the same, with some little things here and there that are different (marks and combat tactics). That's the main gripe with chaos. They are space marines with spikes.

I'd play a few battles using your CSM as SM and see how you like it before investing in new models.

The new dex for CSM should be soon as well. I'd save the money and see what new stuff is coming out for Chaos with it's release.

Yeah proxy first. It's too bad chaos are really just marimes with spikes. It woul be awesome to include some special rules for a squad of csm. They've been around for ten thousand years, so some rules or optional rules for a squad would rock. Heck even at more points it would be worth it for fluff aspect alone.
