This happened on my game this past Saturday, my DP got lucky enough to get this spell and targeted on a squad of GKs. As expected the GKs inflicted a bunch of power weapon wounds on themselves however at the moment of removing the models wounded we didn't know which ones to remove since the power is a malediction it isn't exactly a shooting attack so that we could remove the closer minis first, but a close combat attack made within the unit. Since the unit had mixed weapons as is usual on the GKs codex we randomized which models got wounds. Still i got curious to know if the closer models to my DP should be removed.

Edit: You! You're the traitor! is the warp 2 spell from telepathy pg 423 BRB for reference.

Well a couple ways to do this. First is the random allocation pg 15, However, the wounds would be coming from the models themselves (each with different weapons) so I would use them as the source and allocate closest from there.

On top of a mountain.

@Fragile That would get very complicated very fast.

It's best to just use random allocation.

For me it depends on the wording of the power. If it's actually stated that it's a close combat attack, then you could follow the close combat allocation rules for it. That is - pick a model in base contact, allocate wounds until it's removed, pick the next.

That leaves two ways to interpret the rule:
1) each model is in base contact with itself, and so resolves its own attacks against itself before others, which is just a mess, or;
2) each model is considered to be within 2" of the rest of its unit, so noone's in base contact and you get to pick.

I prefer the 2nd, for hopefully obvious reasons - it's quicker, simpler, and makes more sense considering what the power is supposed to represent.
