Hello everyone I was hoping to get some fellow Dakka experiences with sacrificial-charge denial jump troops. To give context a shorthand list I will be using (which is not the focus of the discussions mind you )

- Rescularch + 9 DC on foot with Bolters -> PF/PW + Droppod

- Priest + 2 RAS (regular assault squads) with 2 melta each (sgt loadout is naked or something cheap)

- 3 squads of devestators + scouts

The Deathcompany + Super Chaplin have the potential to be amazing assault/pressure units, as long as they get the charge. This is compounded given that they are on foot, so they are at a disadvantage vs my RAS squads for determining when a assault will occur. My goal is to increase the chance of them getting the assault on their turn, while not decreasing the effectiveness of any other unit in the process.

I am thinking the best bet is to stick the priest with one of the RAS and combat squad the other RAS. The combat squaded RAS would be split melta in one and bums in the other (lets call them the expendables). The expendables posistion themselves behind the DC unit (will assume priest FNP bubble is not present) and can jump in front of them if there is a potential chance of a opponent charge, providing a charge buffer.

Does this seem like a solid idea? I know there are lot of variables that can deny this (such as my DC droppod lands out of reach of the expendables) etc. Do you have any other tips/tricks or advise for getting a footsquad into combat on there terms vs enemies that are likely a bit faster.

How about joining the priest to the DC?
So you move the DC 6'', fly the priest just within 2'' of them and then join up.
This will make them as a unit over 2'' closer.
