Subject: Starting Space Wolves, 1000 pt all comer list

I've bought my first Grey Hunters and painted them, now I want to make my first 1000 point list to give me something to aim towards. Heres what I'm thinking:
Rune Priest, TDA, Master Runes, runic weapon, Wolf Tooth Necklace: 180 points
Wolf Guard Pack
2x TDA, PW, SB
1x TDA, Assault Cannon
1x TDA, twin wolf claws
1x TDA powerfist, SB
225 points
Grey Hunter pack 1
7x standard grey hunters
2 x plasma guns
1 x powerfist + wolf standard
Rhino
230 points
Grey Hunter Pack 2
7x standard grey hunters
1x Flamer
1x melta gun
1 x powerfist + wolf standard
Drop Pod
220 Points
Long Fangs
5x missile launcher
1 squad leader with flamer
145 points
Total=1000 points exact
Idea being Long fangs set up as fire support, Termies protect them and/or go for hard units, GH1 moves 12" disembarks takes objective, GH2 drops behind lines by tanks or enemy objective
Opinions welcome, but I dont have lots of bits to make combi weapons or even CMLs :(

why have you put a squad leader with a flamer in? presumambly to deter charges against the long fang pack, but is that really necessary?
what will you do in 4, 5 and 6 objective missions?
How long do you expect the rhino to last?

Long fangs, I had 5 points to spare, so thought it would be a nice idea to add a flamer.
I expect the rhino to last 1 turn, get the 12" move and disembark, then it can blow up, it gets the GH into range of their rapid fire weapons, thats the plan anyhow
hmm, see your point about the rest of the objectives, but I'm not really wanting GH spam, I like my toys I think in 1500 points I'd have 3 units though.

Heya. Fellow Space Wolf Player here.
I see that you're running terminators at 1000. That's pretty awesome and risky, because you're really lacking the real punch that space wolves can really pack in a shorter
number game. I run 2 Groups of Long Fangs with Missile Launchers at 1000. Just for the extra fire support, but one would be okay. I really do think that instead of a plasma in your
grey hunter squad, you should step it up to a melta or two. Not having a razorback and AP 1 weapons is rather difficult to play with.
Overall, not to bad. Just looking out for a fellow wolf player. Good Luck.
edited. Didn't see you posted an HQ choice.

Firstly a heads up, you can't take the 2nd special weapon in your GH squads because they don't number 10 men.
I would run a Plain Rune Priest 100pts. Put him with your LF's and just use living lightning every turn until they get closer enough for Jaws). Two 5 strong LF squads with launchers at 115 each, with a tl lascannon razorback each, that's 150 for both. That leaves you 520pts for a 3 strong WG unit (I run powerfist, 2 Combis, 2 Power Wpns which totals 104pts). Leaving 405 for troups.
How about two 7 strong GH squads with, Melta, Wolf Standard, MotW, Rhino (160 each).
That leaves you 90 points. I'd be tempted to put in a 5 man GH squad with a plasma gun to hold a home objective.
Or you could go for a 5 strong pack of wolf scouts with 5 sniper rifles. Wounds anything on a 4+, 6's on hit are precision, 6's on wound are rending...plus pinning of course. This can be a nice shooty back-up to your LF's at the back.

Back in the day, we were epic Space Vikings with horns, and beer, and stupid mockney accents, and we didn't have any truck with this flying around like a pansy shizzle. We certainly didn't surround ourselves with mangy animals.
Now we're basically the Bestiality Chapter.
We also now ride chariots and employ daemonic dreadnoughts...also, we fly and teleport with abandon. With wolves. |

This suggested army is one of the more efficient ones. Although I would keep the plasma personally due to the new rapid fire rules and such. Also you have the TL Lascannons for the bigger guys/tanks. You can also add mb's if you truly need to take out tanks.

Tehjonny Hit most of the points I would have made. Mostly I would say these things
1) At 1000 points, you do not want your characters to be expensive. Keep your rune priest cheap and cheerful - 100 points with power armor, bolt pistol and Rune Weapon. You do NOT need master of runes.
2) You have 5 wolf guard models that cost you 225 points. That's almost one quarter of your army for only 5 dudes. Way too much. For 225 points, you'll perform much better with 5 Long Fangs with ML's and a Razorback with TL Lascannon.
3) Your squads should each be equipped for a special task. If you're going to arm your GH squad with melta, then you want to give them as much melta as possible. Like this...
4) If you have any Rhinos in your army at all, then you need to take many many Rhinos. They just die too quickly if your opponent has nothing else to use his heavy weapons on.

Yeah I'm still kinda stuck in 5th ed melta mode :p. I think he's actually got 94 pts at the end there...so if his opponent doesn't mind him going 6pts over limit he can get a plasma gun in each rhino squad . Or as you say a melta bomb or two.
