PINE PLAINS, NY – A Boy Scout leader from New York who was attacked by a rabid beaver while swimming in the Delaware River is recovering.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that 51-year-old Normand Brousseau, of Pine Plains, was swimming in eastern Pennsylvania on Aug. 2 when a beaver swam through his legs and bit him in the chest.

The animal then bit him in the leg, buttocks, arm, hand and torso before he managed to grab it and hold its jaw closed.

One Boy Scout pulled Brousseau to shore, where he tossed the beaver away from him. The Scouts then used rocks to kill the animal.

A doctor confirmed the beaver had rabies a day after the attack.

That had to be some serious bites. Closest incident for me was a feral dog attacking us in Afghanistan. Did not end well for the dog. For the scouts to take out the beaver with rocks was pretty quick thinking.

This is obviously an issue of poor beaver control within the US. This calls for greater beaver control and less beavers in the hands of all Americans! Especially rabid beavers, the most dangerous kind, commonly referred to as "assault beavers", and able to bite several times in a matter of seconds.

I think I speak for many Americans when I say I'm a fan of the majestic beaver, but that we need to implement regulation and control of these "rabid" beavers. Especially the ones at my local drinking establishments.

I wasn't aware that the average boy-scout knew how to handle beavers. And it's pretty obvious that the guy who was bitten has a history of beaver-related abuse. Maybe he was wearing a flavored-diving cap.
