I've been slowly building up my Panzer Lehr and I was looking at building an American armoured list to square off against them.

I've heard people say that until BGG and the Ardennes books American armour was not very competitive and even more so since the V3 rules came out.

Has anyone heard any news on whether BF will remake Earth & Steel and Turning Tide to make the lists more up to date and more competitive?

Just like to know before I go out and buy a platoon of M4A1's only to find out they're completely useless (they're probably not but the way people talk about American armour you would think they were).

It's not going to happen anytime soon.

Battlefront still has to complete its Bulge books, then a Market Garden Compilation, Barbarossa, and then will most likely be going back to Mid-War.

The main reason why people thought poorly of Late War American armor is that in comparison to the stats of German tanks, the 75mm and 76mm Sherman's just couldn't compare. Now, I'm sure there's quite a bit of exaggeration, but the list in BGG and DC put those to shame.

If I remember correctly, the Panzer Lehr did fight against the Americans in the Ardennes, so you could use the lists in BGG and DC and still be semi-historically accurate.

I doubt there will be a remake of those books any time soon, esp since they arent even a year old yet.

Just go with BGG if you want US tanks/armored inf.

The armored inf is the really good list as you get the huge Vet AR platoons and get TDs and a custom tank platoon of just about whatever you want.

I also think you need to seperate yourself from the concept of "competative" for lists. FoW is taking a historical context and putting into their game system. Many other game systems make the "system" and then create the context that system exists in.

In the latter it is much easier tweak lists to increase their competativeness in compairison to other lists. with the former, you are usually stuck with what you have. In creating early/Mid/Late BF attempted to reduce the Russian T-26s vs King Tiger type issues, but they can still arrise. This arrises especially when you play lists outside a theatre.

The US armored lists from TT are fairly competative vs German lists in E&S. When you pull them outside the theatre, some of the flaws and weaknesses become more apparent.

I agree if you want 'good' games of FoW you want to go for lists from certain matching books, so TT vs E&S, HH/AbtF etc

Thanks for all the help peeps. I'll have a look at BG&G as I like the sound of the armoured infantry. Otherwise I might just go and grab a boxed set of M4A1's, just for the fun of painting them up.

There's very little change in the points values for Germans between Earth and Steel and Grey Wolf.

I think the updated V3 armoury for Earth and Steel is available online somewhere.
