The codex says that a squad of 10 grey hunters can equip a free flamer melta or plasma gun. Wolf guard can be chosen to lead grey hunter packs as well. If a grey hunter pack of 9 grey hunters lead by a wolf guard as they enter the field, resulting a unit of 10, do they still acquire the free weapon? The codex reads "If the squad numbers ten MODELS....". It doesn't seem to specify grey hunters just models. This would make me believe that i could indeed have 2x plasma guns, one being free, in a squad of 9 GH 1 WG. i have read things that seem to contradict this though so I'm confused as to why this wouldn't be aloud.

Q. Can a Grey Hunter unit that consists of nine Grey Hunters and a Wolf Guard Pack Leader take a second weapon? (p26)
A. No, as the unit is not comprised of ten models until just before the battle starts, at which point it is far too late to be tinkering with your army list. This provides players who wish to mount their Grey Hunters in a Rhino or Drop Pod with a difficult tactical choice - extra special weapon or Wolf Guard pack leader?

The Wolf Guard pack leader is technically not a part of the unit ntil you add him jsut before deployment (which is after the game has begun). So unless you have a magic paper list that automatically updates between when the game starts and you finish deploying, no, he's not the 10th model in the unit that gives you the special weapon.

Another pointer here is that the entry says "squad", which refers to the army list entry that the ten models must be chosen from - not "unit", which would include the Wolf Guard.

To get the 2nd free special weapon it must be a squad of 10 grey hunters, woldguard do not join the squad until the very start of the game.
