Is the oldest ultramarine worth taking? He is very cheap and hard to kill however where would you put him in your army? I was thinking (to keep things fluffy) to keep him in the back field with my sternguard and just smash anything that got too close (3 attacks from the sternguard with rel rolls and fearless). Or I could put him with my termies in the landraider or have him target hordes of nids or weaker guys that can hurt his toughness 6 and use him as a tarpit. How would you guys use him?

There is no such thing as innocence, only varying levels of guilt.

yea, he would go with termies in a land raider, or a squad of assault marines in a rhino or razorback or drop pod.

He acts like a cheap terminator chaplain. So landraider with assault terminators is probably best.

He will want to get into assault and you haven't many footslogging units that will want the same apart from assault terminators.

Bear in mind that in 6th, models in assault strike against the majority Toughness in the squad. So if Cassius is with a unit, his T6 doesn't mean squat unless he's in a challenge. This mitigates his usefulness somewhat. I'd advise against using him with sternguard, if you're going to give them a character I'd suggest a Librarian or Lysander. If you insist on running Cassius with them for fluff reasons, at least put them in a Drop Pod. That whole bit about Sternguard in the backfield worries me, they're best at mid to close range hammering stuff with their special ammunition.

As MFletch said, he's really only good in a LR with assault terminators. In this scenario, he is good at soaking challenges if necessary, as his T6 and FnP come into their own. Not that Assault Terminators really need to worry about soaking challenges per se.

Chaplains belong leading the charge of assault troops. As Cassius lacks a jump pack, that puts a hard limit of what he can do. We only have two good options, jump troops or assault terminators. So terminators it is.

You could gear up some scouts for close combat. It looks like the rules allow you to tag along for the scout move, but not if you infiltrate. Move through cover should also work. Might be fun.

If you were going to take vanguard vets and buy them a land raider, just stop and buy some assault terminators. If all your elite slots are full, it should work though.

The guy is a bargain for what you pay. He's 25 points more then a stock chaplain, but comes with a master crafted combi flamer (with hellfire, while keeping both his BP and Crozios). His gun alone is probably worth those points. But then you tack on T6 and FnP. His only drawback is that you are locked into his gear, so you can't jump pack him, or deep strike with terminators, etc. But as long as he has guys to Look out Sir! him (particularly big guys with 2+ saves) the fact that he's in power armor on foot isn't that big a deal.

Another option for if you're hellbent on running him with Sternguard, and you pod them in. If it looks like you're going to be charged, split him off and have him charge the attackers while keeping the Sternguard back. If you can't take the unit down, the Sternguard at least get a chance to move away, and Cassius is bound to do some damage before he goes down.

He would be much better with Assault troops, though.
