So I have been thinking about the differences in axes and swords for awhile. Since we now have can have these axes for free and ultimately the durability of Terminator armor is excellent in this addition should we start including some axes to the group? It would give us strength 5 and give more options for dispatching enemy Terminators.

Thoughts?

I think they're a good investment for the cost, although I'd still run a power/chainfist or 2 in the squad to be safe.

Space wolves terminators are really kickass in 6th

a special weapon has been changed from

only giving +1A if wielding 2 special weapons of the same type

to

only giving +1A if wielding 2 weapons with the special weapon rule

so at 48p space wolves can bring out the

PF + WC - terminator which gets +1A like dual claw but are of course much more all-round

id probably agree - other than the fact you can get the extra attack from another cc weapon, is there really an advantage to an axe rather than a fist which would give more strength? youd still strike at initiative 1?

well, i suppose its cheaper actually?

It's just that it's cheaper. You get the power axe for free with terminator armor, but the power fist costs 10 points (?) I think. I still like the idea of having at least one or two powerfists in a squad of 5 terminators - just to deal with monstrous creatures and such.

Here's another idea too ; What about a power axe + storm shield? You save points by taking the power axe instead of a TH or PF, but still get AP2. Any oponent who also has AP2 in CC will probably be going simultaneously with you at initiative 1. But you'll have the storm shield so that his AP2 weapon only reduces your terminator armor to power armor equivalent.

The idea of a terminator with a power fist AND a wolf claw is very tasty indeed. But I'd worry about not being able to shoot anything. That could be a problem if the unit doesn't have a suitable transport (drop pod or land raider), because if you have to walk to get into CC, it would be too easy for your opponent to either avoid you or gun you down with plasma.

I think my 5 man unit will be in the line of

PF + Assault cannon
2 WC + Combiplasma
2 WC + PF

but thats also because thats the models ive got

i se no reason not to take cyclone on the fifth guy, SS+Power axe is also good, storm shield should be good but i usually let my WGBL or WL carry that

I would never have any frost axes of course on terminators because on termies you cant get the extra attack for wielding one exept with another PW/FB/FA which is silly

I would never have a TH+SS becuase we cant compete on points with those

I would never have a twin claw model since we can do so much better with Claw+PF and Claw+combi

On WG leading grey hunters i find WC+combiplasma is the best
on WG leading blood claws i found 2WC was good before and I expect WC+PF to be brutally good for them now

Ultimately what you have to ask yourself is if +3 strength is worth 10 points. Off hand, I'd say every time. This is especially true since termi armor comes with storm bolters and there isn't a way to get a pistol to get +1 attack with just sticking with the axe.

See I was thinking of making my logan group look like this

4 terminators with axes
2 terminators with swords
2 terminators with shields and hammers
2 terminators with swords and cyclone missile launchers
Logan

Comes out to a hefty 659, but it also has a good amount of shooting (can pull a couple of terms/meq down with storm bolters and missiles with prefered enemy) before charging in with a good number of attacks.
