This is a silly question but i gave my ultra marines to my 3 year old son. (he loves tanks) I want to get some space marine books for him to look at with a lot of good pictures. Thank you in advance.

I don't own one, although the 5th edition one has quite a few.
Although quick question, What is your 3 year old going to do with your old space marines?

The 4th edition one is a lot cheaper so i'd like to get that one. He plays with them. They're like the coolest army guys ever. and i like painting them blue for him. Plus, he loves the rhinos and whirlwinds. He like the dreadnaughts most of all though. maybe i'll just give him my 5th edition one. i don't look at it anyways.

Not really. and just about all the pics there are are black and white, except for the ones of the studio models.

Not sure a marine codex is age appropriate for a three year old. Which is my way of saying its not.

Only is so far as he won't have a clue what all the rules and such mean.
It's not like any of the pictures are particularly gory.

Yeah, I don't think anything will give him nightmares or such. If he's able to read well that might be different.

As someone who works in child education and development, pages 4, 11, 33, 36, 39, 43, 50, 58, 86, cover, and title page are all pretty tough on the pre-school psyche. I'm a little disturbed by how little some of you guys respect how impressionable a 3 year old is and how capable they are at understanding visual context.

It's pretty common for boys to be raised around images of violence and war. I'm sure I was playing with guns by age 3, I assume most boys did.

Yeah, monsters and blood are no big deal around here. Although slaughtering animals could be an unfair advantage to me and the other locals.

i was shooting guns when i was 3. lol. if the kid wants to play with his blue marines let him. He sees me painting and reading my codex and he wants to play too. I already gave him the Assault on Black Reach with the orks and blue marines book. He treats it well. his sister and him call mighty Waaagh. they'll be tabling you by the time they can see up to the table. All that being said. I got my answers. thanks again.

Just seems like a waste of money and time to buy and paint all the mini's to have your son play with them.

As someone who is the father of 5 boys, with a potential 6th on the way, I can assure you that spending an hour a day watching cartoons is far tougher on their "psyche's" than what you'll find in a 40k book. Hence the reason why TV is banned in our house, but games, especially those that require imagination are plentiful.

Agreed, I was watching Jurassic Park when I was three(I think I'm fairly normal), several cartoons that I have seen in my 21 years would undoubtedly be rougher on a childs psyche than some battle pictures. That said I personally believe there is much to be said about parenting, if you let TV teach your children then yes it will have a much stronger effect than being brought up with decent parenting and morals.
