Hi everyone! My name is Steve and I am not sure what to say about how new I am to wargaming...

I have painted mini's before (DnD chainmail, etc) and I have played strategy tabletops before (If you count the axis and allies tabletops as such) So the wargaming culture has always had a soft spot in my heart.

Recently I moved to the quad cities on a job relocation and ended up getting a sizable salary increase. This is the third move across the US i've have for a job in the last 5 years. Last time I moved it was WoW I sunk my hours into, but I've given it up, and I'm getting to an age I hate hate hate not having anything to show for my hours. I've recently bought up a basic curio cabinet and plan on filling it up with an army of blood angel / tau (The Greater Gore Army)

To lay it out, I have no idea how to play beyond what tutorials I've seen on youtube. I love the lore (played Dawn of War and read the Ultramarines omnibus) and the style of the game, but the Quad Cities area is dry on wargaming. I consider myself first and foremost a casual collector though. My painting skills are fair / below average, but I shadow these painting forums at dakka often and boy did I feel stupid when I discovered that a wash makes me look like I know what I'm doing (to the effect my wife wondered how I got so good at getting that black in the cracks)

Anywho, pleasure to be here and look forward to being a part of what looks like a very helpful community with well thought out criticisms.

Cheers!

You may think you have enough money, but give it a few months...I kid, enjoy your gaming.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Wellcome to dakka Steve!
If you want something to show for your hours, you're just at the right hobby! There's nothing like owning a whole army of carefully assembled and painted mins ! (well, I'm not too proud of my first 40 or so models, they look horrible and have to be hidden behind biger models )

If you want to improve your painting, start a thread in the panting&modelling section and you'll get some really helpful answers and advice. This comunity is just great

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

Drop Trooper with Demo Charge

Townsville, Australia

Hey man welcome to dakka first and foremost but about the area you live in being dry, I have a few ideas as to how you could find some fellow gamers, first of all get white dwarf at your local newsagent if they stock it GWs monthly magazine that will have club and store directories other than that you can visit your local GW store or hobby store if your city has one, im sure you will find someone there other than that you can start your own house club in your garage or living room and just put up fliers or notices hope this helps mate
