I am enjoying this game (I pretty much just got it from a sale) but I just can't seem to kill anything quickly before it comes up to me and tries to maul me to death. Is there any way I can kill something without running away (and yes I've tried the VAT)

You shoot it alot.
This isn't like Deus Ex or ME where you can quickly kill enemies; everyone can take quite a beating before going down.
What weapons are you using, and what are your skills? Those details are important.

If you're just starting out put lots of points in agility and perception in SPECIAL then grab all the 10mm pistols and 10mm rounds you can. Use vats to shoot everything in the head as many times as you physically can.

Also head to megaton ASAP.

I actually find FNV to be more enjoyable than FO3 actually.
I don't why, I just like it more.

I prefer how Fallout 3 has a short (but cool) introductory sequence and then throws you into the sandbox outright, in New Vegas you can't really start the sandbox uni you get to vegas itself.

In fallout 3 you an completely ignore the main storyline and it won't impact your gameplay at all.

In new vegas if you ignore the main storyline (IE going to vegas then becoming friendly with the factions) you'll be gimped for equipment.

I'd go for a high Int and Per.
You get more points per level up.
Whenever you level up, try to boost your SPECIAL attributes, ignore the fancy skills, do them first.
High Strength and Agility will make causing damage with ranged and close weapons easier. Strength will let you carry more stuff.
Don't put anything past 9, you can collect bobbleheads to take you that last point to 10.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

What are you playing it on? If you're on PC ignore VAT completely.
Also, yeah. Fallout 3 is rubbish, get New Vegas.

I picked up Fallout 3 in the last sale on steam. NV may have been roughly the same price.

I'm still finding it really hard to get into. Granted I have only escaped Vault 101 and reached Megaton where I had to fix some crazy FPS issues(15 FPS on min settings when I can run Skyrim on Ultra is not good XD).

Haven't touched it since. I kinda think my xbox play of it is whats causing me to possibly avoid it.

When the rich rage war it's the poor who die

Armies I have: Chaos Space Marines, Tau, Necrons, High Elves

Armies I want:Lizardmen, Warriors Of Chaos, Dark Eldar

Armies I may get: Dark Angels, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts

Hm-tone of BUGS???

The Wolves go for the throat. We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always."

Hm-tone of BUGS???

It's less buggy. It was buggy as hell at launch, but so was Fallout 3. Numerous DLC for Fallout 3 were completely broken on release and there were giant exclamation marks everywhere because they shipped a version of the DLC that was incomplete. Games using the Gamebryo engine are all pretty buggy, Skyrim being the best about it since they've had the longest to work out the kinks. Even so, still a pretty buggy game.

My solution is spend your first 5 levels of points on guns then buy/find a automatic rifle this usually does the trick for me

My first run through with skyrim, there were several large quests that could only be completed using the console.

And there was the city that I could't go to because after the prisoner/mining break-out thing, the city guard attacked me on sight for no reason whatsoever.

I love the fallout games, but only on the xbox, have got it on the pc but couldnt get used to the controls If i had a controller for it maybe.

It took me a while to get into fallout, bought it years ago and played it twice at most, got killed didnt know what i was doing or where i was going etc, wasnt like the old fallouts so i turned it off, about a year or so later talking to a pal he said how good it was so i thought i'd give it another try and it was worth it, it is extremely good and sucked me right in!

IF you are having trouble just play it linear at first, exit the vault and go to megatown, talk to people there and do some small quests, the lady vendor in megatown gives some good quests as well but the megamart is quite hard at first, once you have done that you get some more further afield quests do them and you should be sorted

First things first, you wanna try to get your hands on a Chinese Assault Rifle. Those things are amazing. Secondly, remember to use water sources to heal up. Just watch out for mirelurks, they are a big pain in the ass to deal with early on. You might also like a companion, because they make exploring the wasteland much easier, and less lonely. Some good ones would be Jericho (Evil Karma), and Dogmeat (any karma). By the way, you really should stop by the Dunwich building, its a blast.

It's basically one long HP Lovecraft reference, and it's pretty cool. If you have any of the DLC, you can go there after playing Point Lookout (the best DLC) and there's some things that tie in there.

If you're on PC check out Tesnexus for mods. There are good realism mods and a lot of well balanced weapons.

Fallout: Wanderer's Edition is the best mod I had for Fallout 3; same guys did a very similar mod with Project Nevada in New Vegas. Makes the game more realistic in both damage and needs (for instance, you need to eat and sleep in Fallout 3, and the eating/sleeping requirements build on those already in New Vegas) and overall makes for a more immersive experience.

I'd say don't put anything past 8. Bobbleheads can take you to 9, and there are versions of most armours that can take you to 10 if you really need it. If you have the game of the year edition on PC, some of the DLC included raises your level cap by 10 and gives you perks later in the game that will raise all your attributes to 9 anyway, so if you can get there and then collect the bobbleheads, you can get to 10 in every SPECIAL stat.

I concentrate on Str, Agi, and Luck. There is also a crater in the N/NE that has a crashed UFO in it. You can find an alien blaster there with power cells that is amazing. With a good energy weapons skill you can take out a lot of things (Mirelurks, even Deathclaws with a good enough skill and the right perks!) in one shot. There is also another area with a crashed army truck in a radioactive 'y' shaped ravine. There are more alien energy cells near the truck. Keep this weapon for the tougher fights and you will increase your survivability no end, and when you run out of ammo completely, you can sell it to the outcast BOS for a LOT of caps! (Although by then, you may be of such a high level for it to not make that much difference.)

Perks I always try and get are better criticals and anything that improves sneak. Any successful attack on an unaware opponent from sneak gets an automatic critical, and with the Alien Blaster and Improved Criticals, there's almost nothing that doesn't go down first shot with a decent Energy Weapons skill and Gunslinger/Sniper when shot in the head in VATS.

Anyone who says VATS is a waste of time doesn't know what they are talking about, you get an improved critical chance when in vats, so that, improved criticals, gunslinger, sniper, and the Alien Blaster are a real killer combo. (Sorry to keep banging on about it, it's by far and away my favourite build for just mucking about in the game as it makes things so much easier.)

Perception increases the range at which hostiles will appear red on your compass, so that is also a good place to put points for a sneaky character. The ability to spot hostiles before they spot you is important, your automatic critical vanishes as soon as the hostile spots you, so it can take a huge amount more ammo to take them down.

"Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics, and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe, and Lao-Tzu, and Einstein, and Morobuto, and Buddy Holly, and Aristophanes…then all of this…all of this…was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars." I'd also recommend pumping perks into small guns, and repair. These will get you through most of the game to be honest, in fact now I use exclusively standard guns, no energy weapons or big guns (except fat man of course). Anything that improves AP in VATS or increases accuracy/critical hit % is also really handy to have.
