So I had to drive my nephew to the doctor the other day for an appointment and felt no need to change the CD that I was playing at the time, being a Joy Division CD. Anyway my sister ended up getting mad at me saying that he shouldn't be listening to depressing music at such an early age. I countered back with he's too young to even get any of it. Plus its way better than that Raffi bs. I need an impartial opinion on this, should have I been playing something different? In her defense when I pulled up Disorder was playing which is by far their most depressing slash best song so.

The kid probably didn't even notice any lyrics. Anyway, next time your sister dictates what you should be listening to in your car, while you are driving her kid to the doctor, just tell her that she can always drive him instead.

I have a 3 year old. The music styles kids like are not always "The Wiggles", and it wont hurt them to listen to other music. Your sister is over-reacting

This is one of the songs my 3 old asks me to play.
This band is just as dark as Joy Division, and my son has not snapped thus far. Your nephew will be just fine.

Genghis Connie used ot love this song from a cd I had. She surprised us the other by singing the entire lyrics to it at the table and reciting it as a fond memery of when she was a kid (now that she's a big old adult of nearly 14). its an old hobo song:

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

I could understand if you were playing some rap with lots of swearing and explicit lyrics but Joy Division? Seriously?

Yeah, I'd hold off on the Joy Division.

I think the kid is way too young to hear just show crappy music can be.

azazel, I dont go out of the way to disrespect your music, but honestly, i would like to hear your beef with Joy Division.

Also my sister was far from rude with it. I just never even thought it would be weird. my sister is a textbook modern age new parent though.

It wasnt the lyrics she was worried about rather the tone. which im starting to think maybe kinda true. i mean i can have an attitude shift listening to certain music, why couldnt a 3 year old?

You are never too young to listen to good music.

On a related note my daughter used to kick like crazy in the womb any time we played New Order...

My eight month old likes listening to rock music because we played it all the time when he was in the womb.

Both my older lads (eight and six) have always listened to what we want to listen to, which includes some heavier songs, and it always makes me grin when I hear the eldest singing along to one of my faves.

Oh and damn it Frazz, you're going to make me put that movie on now, one of my personal favourites right there.

My friend and I have been driving his wife's great grandson around town since he was 1. Here's a sample of what we play:

His mother bitches about it sometimes, but we just tell her she can either pay for a real baby sitter or get over it. As a side note, he's 5 now and quite enjoys metal. We raised that kid right.
