Anyone got any thoughts on the idea of dropping down 20 termagants with devourers in a spore? Worth the points for the havoc it could cause? 60 devourer shots straight... What's the best it could take out? In a competitive list at 240 points, a bit terrible or good?

Had it used on my Daemon lists and let me tell you, it was a straight kick in the crotch to have that pop down a blast a 220 point daemon prince straight out the sky. Unreal rolling aye, but still.

I think its a good wrench thrower, but don't expect it to last more than 1-2 turns. Flamers just love mass termagaunts :3

Sometimes 20 Devil gaunts deepstriking in a pod is the best 240pts you will ever spend. 60 shots is something most units can't handle. And forget about charging it.

I used only 12 the other day and they wiped out a Devastator squad with ease. I can just imagine how great 20 would be (although they're probably overkill too).

I wouldn't say with ease.

12 "only" average 3 dead marines. It takes the full 20 to kill your average 5 man MeQ squad.

Over all they are a maybe in my book. Sure it's a lot of potential damage, but it doesn't take much to tie them up or straight up kill them, and they are only really effective against either AV10 or de-mech'ed light/medium infantry, which aren't really targets tyranids lack in ability to kill.

There's a trick I've heard of though, drop the pod and gaunts into the enemies deployment for the line breaker bonus point. Both the pod and the gaunts count for line breaker so it's a cheap trick to get up in the enemy's grill with a sizable scoring unit. If you can get a tervigon up there to support them via running or gating him with the TK power you have a solid couple of units that can be a bitch to dislodge.

Yeah I used it to get a linebreaker point. And I give the Spore Cluster Spines as well, so the Spines + Ripper Tentacles help a bit to take out the squad as well.

I think you'd want to drop at the 15-18" range so you aren't risking getting charged too much. Of course it really depends on what you are facing and how the terrain is.

Can be a nice distraction too - your enemy can't afford to ignore such a unit, and so is forced to waste attention and resources wiping it out, meanwhile the rest of your army is scuttling forwards.

Other than the expensive Ruses, necrons and landraiders, pretty much every vehicle in the game has AV10 at the rear. 20 devilgaunts in a pod have an excellent change of destroying nearly any vehicle on the drop.
