So, we are playing a tournament in Shanghai next week and would love some advice on tuning my list.

Option A - Draigo Coteaz and Standards Storm Raven

- 2x psycannons

Option B Draigo Coteaz and upgraded storm raven

Note - this list downgrades the secondary paladin squad and adds a standard to the deathstar

I have played the first list, and feel that it is a bit lacking - i.e., not utilizing my storm raven to the most effect - the extra bolters at S5 can bascially glance any other flyer (besides another storm raven) to death... in my playtest game i basically pulled 2 hull points off when using a non-upgraded storm raven. Coteaz is great, but the re-rolls are the best part of him with divination. His other abilities are great, but not sure if worth 2 psycannons and a paladin.

Since I have played the first list and am somewhat familiar with GK myself (though not so much Paladins) my personal opinion would be to go list number 2. Coteaz is so multipurpose and brings some really cool defensive rules to the table it seems unwise to drop him. An inquisitor may be cheaper but they don't have 2+ saves, a MC hammer, "I've been expecting you" or "spy network".

Losing the 5th Paladin and DSing in as 2, 2 man squads seems like a good idea to me. Soladins give away first blood too easily and since you can manipulate reserves you can also attempt linebreaker late game.

And to add some more stuff I was thinking about:

1. Gotta think about the local meta. Players (and armies) we have to worry about are Sun's DE, Yangs IF, DiuDiu's BA, Breakys triple GK Stormraven/Paladin spam and I think that's it.

Sun IMO is your hard counter. Everything has a Dark Lance and he has the mobility to get angles on your Deathstar. DiuDiu should be easily handled. She has a smattering of S8 but your Paladins can soak up a bit and hammer whatever hit them. Yangs IF and her BA (if she includes Deepstrikers) are the sole reason to keep Coteaz. No more worries about melta guns hitting from the rear of the Deathstar. Coteaz will kill a fair few before they get to hit. Not sure what to suggest with Breaky. His GK are a tough cookie and I think he has you beat unless you just play the mission. You can't outshoot him and you will likely lose a lot of models. Go for the easy VP's and try to mitigate the ones you know you will give away.

Oh and obviously you have to worry about my list too, haha. But you have at least had a practise game so perhaps you will know what to expect. I learnt a hell of a lot from it. Looking at the strength of my list now I can see that if I don't play like a fool, I don't face one of the hard lists too early (Breakys list scares me also) and the dice don't completely abandon me I should get into the top 4 quite easily.

I still prefer list A overall. I don't really like the idea of making the raven too expensive because it can still get shot down just as easily as a naked one. I much prefer the raw firepower of psycannons on paladins.

You should try a test game with the new configuration (upgraded raven) if you can before the tournament or list submission.
