Just wondering with 6th Ed, what a good load out for a unit of TC would be?
I've got 6-8 thunderwolves with a character, should I split them into units of 4? How many power weapons, fists, etc do I need? Storm shields?
Just curious before I fill out the rest of my list.

I think units of 3 are enough or 2 with a wolf lord.

I usually run 1 with ss at the front to tank the hits and 1 naked maybe melta bombs and the other with Powerfist. This keeps them cheap lots of rending attacks and the strength 10 fist aswell.

I'm gonna try and run 4 with 3 SS, 1 TH and a wolf lord. What's your lord running?

I prefer my TWC all with ss and one with TH they just run and kill

"Listen closely Brothers, for my life's breath is all but spent. There shall come a time far from now when our Chapter itself is dying, even as I am now dying, and our foes shall gather to destroy us. Then my children, I shall listen for your call in whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall, no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the end I will be there. For the final battle. For the Wolftime."Leman Russ

All with ss is such a point sink especially as it wont help them survive any better against heavy bolters/ anything with lots of dakka, and 1 ss at the front will take all the saves this edition until he dies.

I would run a wolf lord with ss and frostblade/runic armour to make him a full tank.

Also TH are a waste of 5 points, just use powerfists they will be strength 10 and kill anything.

I used to have all my twc carrying SS but long felt it was to expensive the day after 6 th got out i had a game with a friend and i ran a 5 man pack all with chainsword and plasma pistol, because i thought that with the increase in movement i will have better conrol and keep them safe from shooting. I was correct and my wolves had only lost a single wound on their way towards the enemy, but in CC they should have had those SS because PW are common and the T5 dont usually count for much really

I will use SS not to make them reach combat but because they are already expensive so the extra cost for a SS seems worth it so you can wrestle with the big guys when in CC. They need to be killing terminators, there is no need to buy them for other purposes because probably GH already do everything else better

You should just be throwing your plasma GH /razorbacks at terminators, and against most units you just challange there sergeant and tank the power weapon hits with your ss thunderwolf, or if you take the wolf lord accept with him and strike 1st killing him.

I would run at least 4 or 5, could get away with 3 if with lord. At least half should have SS and one should have a TH or PF. That should hold it's own acroos the table and into combat. Be aware that if you don't have alot of other big targets (land raiders, razorbacks, maybe long fangs) there will be a few LC leveled at your TWC! the higher the points the more big guns. a 3++ is essential.

Think of something witty..........

Well 8th has succeeded in making me a 40k noob.

sooo,
if I had 2 squads of 4 each, I could run 2 with SS, 1 regular (maybe with a PW) and one with a Fist?
that would come out to 300pts about - I'd still have room for some other things in my army.
I've always had poor luck relying on tons of rending. I've played Daemons and their fiends have an extra attack and higher initiative, but I seem to average about 1.5 dead marines due to poor WS and dice rolling.

I've always liked the idea of a lone wolf as well and 3 unit s of Grey Hunters some longfangs maybe and a Rune priest.

I've got a bunch of Terminators as well, sounds like I'll run out of points before I can get all my models on the board.
