Question. About to buy this compressor from eBay. Any one have any recs for against? I saw it as a possible alternative for the 150 passche with tank kit but thought I'd ask around. Any recs or warnings?

I didn't recognize the brand but I feel like I've seen it before. I'm just really getting ramped up so don't want to spend a glut but am prepared to pay reasonably for a compressor with tank.

That is your average AS186 compressor. Pretty standard, but will do what you need as far as miniatures go. Possibly a little noisy - itle most likely be a day time thing, not so loud that you just cant run it ever. I compare it to the approximate volume the average stereo type old aged person might watch tv i.e kinda loud.. but not too much so.

This would be the baseline reccomendation in any airbrushing thread. Anything better is nice, but not neccesary.

Thanks a million. Have you heard the volume on the Paasche 3000?

Also will the 3l tank last long or will I have to constantly run the compressor to refill tank?

Iv heard of paashe.. never had one to try out though. I hear good things.

Iv got an AS196; the same but with twin pistons, not a huge difference tbh.. a little louder and a little faster fill time.
When runnign a gravity fed brush at 15-20psi, the compressor fills the tank in a few minutes, and then kicks back in after 15-20minutes of constant spraying. After about an hour of work its a tad too hot and should be left to cool down, when the motor is hot it condenses moisture intot he air it compresses, which collects inside the tank and rusts it fromt he inside out, aswell as putting your moisture trap to work, eventually you will have spitting moisture because the trap gets saturated by it.
But for working 30-60minutes at a time this thing should be great. A larger tank would last longer between refills however. It totally depends on your needs.

I run a paasche d3000r.

Its quiet enough I can run it in the living room of my apartment, and its barely audible through a closed door in the rooms. I've never had noise complaints from neighboring apartments, even though I run it sometimes 2-3 in the morning, for 20-30 minutes at a time. You can easily talk at a normal speaking voice over it.

That's great I think I'll get the as 186 as the price seems right and start from there.

Quick follow up? Doug's it really necessary to have more than 35 or 45 working psi?

Not really;
Most gravity feed airbrushes work at around 15-30 depending on paint thickness, nozzle size and detail level needed.

A suction (Or siphon) feed brush could use quite a bit more, my own is rated for 50-60psi.

Bear in mind that not only is there a pressure (psi) level there is also an amount of 'flow' measured in 'CFM' usually... sometimes in litres/min.
An airbrush's needs again are pretty low, most compressors can just about cope or more. Its when you look at suction fed brushes and hvlp guns that you start to need more psi and more air flow. Pneaumatic tools would require even more of both.

I have that model air compressor, it's quiet enough to not wake people that are asleep two rooms away. It works great for use with painting minis.

That looks identical to my harbor freight airbrush with a added tank.

It's somewhat noises IE may aggitate people in the same room trying to watch TV or something. But my upstairs roommates haven't complained. Of course I haven't been doing a lot of airbrushing at 3:00am either lol.

So I've settled on this masters g43 kit with airport depot compressor with tank. About 170 usd from tcp global the compressor is essentially the same as above Not cheap but I'm hoping enough to get me well started. Any of you experts have any tips or tricks to get this airbrush noob started? Any last minute earnings not to jump in with this kit?

I've had one similar to that before, I recognise the nozzle piece. It works fine, but the teenyweeny thread on the nozzle was the part that gave way for me.

I googled Master G43 airbrush and got TCP global, is that where you are shopping?
For me I'l admit im now biased towards the brand of my own brush (H&S) but the way their nozzle goes in involves no thread and the seal is actualy ptfe rather than rubber, You just slot the nozzle into the end cap and the screw that on - this probably means very little to you untill you try to disassemble a few airbrushes for cleaning (which is a regular job and thus little things like this make all the difference)

Conversely though, new needles and nozzles for the master brushes are much less than H&S parts.

but this one is what I want to reccomend;

I too run a paasche d3000r...it took me FOREVER to find sound ratings (actual ratings, not just "its really quiet") and this is a good one.
I have it, and it is so quiet, you can literally have a normal conversation in the room with it.

Put it under a table, or a desk, and its not much louder than a loud fan. If you can afford it, its amazing.
