I've noticed when I open quote tags but forget to close them, the forum automatically closes them for me by adding a /quote at the end of the post.

This is a major pain in the ass.

Usually a 'forgotten' quote tag was one you typed incorrectly, or an opening quote tag you forgot to remove when you were formatting your post. In either case, leaving the text as 'unquoted' makes it much easier to read and understand who wrote what. When the forum automatically adds a /quote at the end, you wind up with all sorts of situations where people haven't said the things they are quoted as saying, and it can lead to confusion during discussions.

Can we re-think this part of the forum software? Is there some way we can turn this feature off?

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

It only takes a moment to double click on your posts to open up the quick edit box to allow you to type in the end quote code. That way you can get across your original intention instead of having a post that makes it looks like the stuff you are quoting is your original work. The current option is the lesser of the two evils, but really once you post something you should look at it and edit it if you have made an error with the code. You can always message a moderator for help if needed too.
